| NC Youth Wing slams electricity department for frequent power cuts | | Jammu, June 11 (Scoop News)- Youth Wing of National Conference today slammed Jammu's electricity department for frequent power cuts as the mercury touches 43 degrees Celsius, seeking intervention of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to ensure relief for the people.
In a statement issued today, Tejinder Pal Singh (Aman), Provincial Secretary said that Jammu city and its adjoining areas Gandhi Nagar, Guru Nanak Nagar, Preet Nagar ,Trikuta Nagar, Naibasti, Satwari, Chatha are the worst affected as they are getting electricity for only three to four hours daily. "The day temperature in Jammu has crossed 43 degrees and the JKPDCL is sleeping even as the region faces a major power crises," Singh said, adding that the so called held by the JKPDCL officers is just an eye wash. The corporation is miserably failed to provide regular power supply to the Jammu people, he said.
Calling the JKPDCL as the worst performing, Singh accused the officials of the department of being apathetic to the miseries of the consumers.
The Youth Wing of National Conference is concerned for the people and urges the Lt Governor to pull up the JKPDCL in order to ensure regular supply of electricity in the region, he said, adding that that the erstwhile power department had few years ago installed electronic meters in several areas, assuring them of 24x7 power supply.
"Even last month, the government categorically assured that areas with such metres would get uninterrupted, regular supply, which proved to be a lie," he said.
Singh further alleged that the JKPDCL officials were either not answering people's calls or shifting blame on other departments. "It is not only power cuts, but the lack of coordination between JKPDCL and IRCON which is making people suffer," he added.
Singh also opposed the privatisation of electricity distribution as it would increase per unit cost of electricity for consumers, affecting poor families at a time when people have already suffered economically due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He said thousands of people working in the private sector and business class had lost livelihood and the proposal of the government to bring in private players was not a wise decision.
Singh warned to launch agitation if the regular power supply will not provide to the people of Jammu region.
