DLSA Srinagar organises online webinar to commemorate 'World Day against Child labour'

Srinagar, June 12 (Scoop News)-The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, under the aegis of J&K, Legal Services Authority today organized an online webinar on “World Day against Child labour” under the guidance of Mohammad Akram Chowdhary Chairman DLSA/Principal District & Sessions Judge, Srinagar.
Arshid Qadir, Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) Sgr, Hakeem Javeed, Project Coordinator Child Line (NGO Sgr), Dr Suraya Amin Basu, Lecturer GHSS GUND HASSI BHAT Sgr, Advocate Sayed Mujtaba, Child Rights Lawyer, CGWC IMHANS-K were the speakers in the webinar, further the webinar was graced by budding speakers Bisma Ahad and Dania Afroz of GHSS Gund Hassi Bhat Srinagar.
Speaking in the webinar, the ALC focused on Govt. enactment on Child Labour (Prohibition & regulation) Amendment Act 2016. He said this amendment completely prohibits the employment of children below 14 yrs of age and also prohibits the employment of adolescent i.e. between the ages of 14 to 18 yrs in hazardous occupation.
He also apprised the audience of the stern action taken by Govt. against the violaters.
Hakeem Javeed highlighted the importance of Child Help Line (1908) and the services provided by the Child help line.
Dr Suraya Amin Basu focused on the root cause which makes a Child vulnerable to Child Labour. She added that Poverty, Lack Of access, uncontrolled population growth are some of the factors responsible for pushing the children in to labour.
Advocate Sayed Mujtaba threw light on the theme of World Day Against Child Labour, “Act now: End Child Labour”. Further speaking on the theme he highlighted the lack of supportive infrastructure that helps in the implementation of various laws and welfare schemes.
Bisma Ahad and Dania Afroz students of GHSS Gund Hassi Bhat expressed that sexual abuse, drugs, Alcoholism, prostitution are also the consequences of child labour.
