| COL RK Palta assumes appointment of PRO (defence) Jammu | | Jammu, May 16 (Scoop News) – Col RK Palta has assumed the appointment of PRO (Defence) Jammu. Born in Chandigarh, Col Palta is an alumnus of St Johns High School, Chandigarh. He graduated from the DAV College, Chandigarh, and did his Masters in English from Punjab University, Chandigarh. An infantry officer, he was commissioned into 15 Punjab (First Patiala) an elite infantry unit of the Army, on passing out from the Indian Military Academy (Dehra Dun) as part of the Golden Jubilee Course in Dec 1982. Col Palta, has had the privilege of having participated in the Raising of two new Infantry units, the first one in the Punjab Regt and the second one in the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAK LI ) Regt.
During the course of his service, Col Palta has served as the General Staff Officer (Operations) of an Infantry Division; the General Staff Officer (Human Rights) of a Counter Insurgency Force in the elite Rashtriya Rifles; He has also commanded an Instructional Provost Unit in the Corps of Military Police Centre & School, Bangalore. Col Palta also completed his Masters in Communication from Bangalore University in 2002, while on a sabbatical from the Army. Col Palta has also had a tenure with the HQ Tiger Division earlier from 2002 to 2004. Col Palta has earlier served as a PRO (Defence) Jodhpur from 2004 to 2007. Prior to the current posting, the officer was posted as a PRO (Defence) at Kohima in Nagaland.
