IE Jammu celebrates Engineers’ Day | Taj asks Ers to prefer sustainable development | Jammu,September 15 (Scoop News)- The Minister for PHE Irrigation and Flood Control Mr Taj Mohi-ud-Din today that Engineering fraternity has to play a pivotal role to ensure that sustainable solutions are available and implemented on ground for the development of the state. “The need of the hour is to make dedicated efforts to apply state of art technical know how for optimal use of resources and sustainable development” the Minister asked engineers at a function organised to mark 45th Engineers, here today at the Federation of Institute of Engineering (IE) The Day is observed countrywide on the birth anniversary of renowned engineer Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Vivesvaraya. The late Engineer is known for his genius in harnessing water resources and pioneer of economic planning in India. The Minister asked the engineers to emulate his principles of honesty sincerity and hard work to contribute towards nation building. He said that the Jammu and Kashmir state was endowed with abundant natural resources and substantial bank of trained manpower is needed to harness these with minimum disturbance to the ecology. He said that the J&K Water Resource Act was a revolutionary legislation towards economic development of state and added that the engineers have to play an important role in conceptualisation of the techno economic merits of the projects and ensure their proper implementation for optimal use of the water resources. “Engineers have to shift their focus from mere supervision to application of their knowledge in the field to fulfil their responsibilities and strengthen the faith in their profession” the minister added. Mr Taj said engineers are the architects and implementers who accelerate the pace of development in the field. Chairman IE, Er B.B.Sharma gave a resume of the history and objectives of the institution adding that the theme for deliberation for this year was ‘Appropriate Climate Responsive Technologies for inclusive growth and sustainable development’.
