CNBC Awaz Travel Awards function in Kashmir

Srinagar, November 21 (Scoop News) – Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Tuesday underlined the need of harnessing multi-faceted tourism activities in the State to make Jammu and Kashmir round the year tourist destination for national and international visitors.
Omar said that the quality infrastructural facilities and service delivery is imperative in the promotion and growth of sustainable tourism. He said while Government has created wide raging tourist infrastructure across the State during the last three and half years, the private sector has to contribute in a big way in this field.
The Chief Minister said that maintenance and preservation of State’s natural beauty and bio-diversity holds key for the sustainable tourism and this aspects should be bench mark of the tourism development Policy.
Addressing 6th CNBC Awaz Travel Awards function at SKICC here, this evening Omar Abdullah said Jammu and Kashmir economic betterment is directly related to the growth and development of tourism.
Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, G.N. Azad, Union Minister for Tourism, K. Chiranjeevi, Minister for Tourism, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister of State for Tourism, Nasir Aslam Wani and Chairman, J&K Bank, Mushtaq Ahmad were present on the occasion.
Emphasizing the need of keeping health resorts and tourist places clean and pollution free, the Chief Minister said that mass awareness should be created in this regard. He asked the private sector to join hands with government departments in keeping tourist places free from pollutants, garbage and waste materials. He also stressed on proper sanitation facilities and disposal of waste material.
Chief Minister asked the participants of the function which also included delegates from various foreign countries to visit all the regions of the State and observe the natural beauty of par-excellence and variegated topography decorated with scenic splendor along with hospitality of people. “This will make you visit here again and again” he told them.
Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare in his speech said that the media is fourth pillar of democracy and urged upon media to highlight the positivity of Jammu and Kashmir and its rich tourist potential. He said Media should give due coverage to the development process taking place in the State while identify areas needing focused attention in development. He said the performance of the government in constructing roads, bridges, schools, colleges, hospitals and its initiation of various welfare measures do not get due coverage in media which need to be focused.
Azad complimented media for highlighting tourism sector and said that the government, hoteliers, tour operators and other stakeholders efficiently showcase the tourism potential of the State and help promotion of this economically important sector. He appreciated the organizers of the function describing it an important step.
Editor-in- Chief, CNBC, Sanjay Gwalia welcomed the dignitaries and gave a detailed presentation of the activities of CNBC Awaz.
Various prominent persons and the State Tourism department were given awards for their contributions in popularizing tourism and upgrading tourist facilities.
