Rana, others pay tributes to veteran journalist Sham Kaul
Jammu, January 09 (Scoop News) – Political Advisor to Chief Minister Devender Singh Rana on Wednesday paid floral tributes to veteran journalist Sham kaul, popularly known as Sham Ji and spoke of the sterling qualities of him during a condolence meeting held at Jammu Press Club.
The meeting was among other attended by friends and admirers of Sham ji besides media fraternity.
During the meeting two minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
Recalling his human qualities, Rana said that Shamji was a symbol of positivity and would always make others feel at ease even during tense moments. Sham Ji humility was something that shone through his interactions with people younger to him as also elders, he added.
Koul’s contribution in building of the press club of Jammu was remarkable, Rana said, adding there was a need to compile writings of Sham Ji and other veterans like him. He named veterans like Mulkh Raj Saraf, B. P Sharma, Sati Sahni, O N Koul, and some others whose works could inspire the next generations of journalists. He also offered help on behalf of the government if such a work is undertaken.
Rana also said that Press Club should start a series of lectures in memory of veterans like Shamji. He said these activities should be a part of the annual calendar of the club so that it can mentor younger generation of journalists.
Amog others, Abdul Rehman Turkoo, Hasrat Gadda, Professor K N Pandita, Professor Misri, Abdul Farhad, Harbans Nagokay, retired judge B L Saraf, Mohammad Sultan, Sajjad Poonchi, Professor B L Zutshi and Anil Dhar also spoke on the occasion.
The programme was anchored by veteran journalist M K Bangroo while General Secretary Suhail Kazmi assured the gathering that under construction new hall would be dedicated to Shamji and other veteran journalists for their contribution towards the society.
