DUJ Pays homage to Veteran Journalist A N Bal
New Delhi/Jammu, January 10(Scoop News) –– The Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ), the family members of the late A N Bal and the Delhi Media Centre for Research & Publications Trust recalled the multifaceted personality of freedom fighter , journalist, critic A N Bal who died on new year’s day at the ripe age of 87.

The meeting called by the Delhi Union Journalists at its amphitheater on Wednesday, resolved to set up a veteran journalists forum for discussion and recreation in his memory. It would also be a vehicle to remember its founders and achievers.

The gathering included leaders of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU), plant unions and activists of the DUJ and the DMCT and the Press Unity Centre. The meeting was chaired by DUJ President Ms. Sujata Madhok.

The meeting recalled his close association with the DUJ for over 60 years, his role in keeping the DUJ united, his nearly 40 years at the DUJ initiated Gulmohar Park Cooperative Group Housing Society and his straight views on life and trade union matters.

The DUJ General Secretary called for a special newsletter as a tribute to Shri Bal and other fighters who inspired the journalists movement. He recalled the loss of a father figure of the DUJ since its inception and a freedom fighter who was exiled from the state of Kashmir for one year when he revolted against the tyranny of the state. He noted that he didn’t believe in rituals, led several working journalists movements and worked for bank nationalization when others blinked.

Veteran journalist Jal Khambata recalled his last moments with Shri Bal on new year’s eve and his commitment to DUJ. Veteran journalist Deven Chintan recalled his long association with Bal who he called a gentle yet firm person who stood by his beliefs. He recalled his association with Bal in his later days in the Public Opinion Trends (POT).

IJU founders S N Sinha, Madan Singh, Premnath Bhargav, AINEF treasurer Roopchand, his son-in-law Sood and sons Dr. Ajay and. Atul Bal besides his two daughters and select friends attended the meeting among others.
