KP Organizations observed Kashmiri Pandit Holocast Day at Jammu

Jammu,January 19 (Scoop News) – Displaced Kashmiri Pandits who were forced to fled from Kashmir valley to Jammu and other states in early nineties soon after the outbreak of militancy in Kashmir observed as their 22nd "holocaust day" on Saturday in Jammu.

The Joint Forum of Kashmiri Pandit organizations organized a Seminar at Jammu Press Club today on the occasion of 22nd Holocaust Day. This day is being observed every year by the Kashmiri Pandit community as the HOLOCAST DAY since 1991 in memory of the persecution that was inflicted upon the Kashmiri Pandit community in the valley of Kashmir in 1989-90.

All prominent leaders of the KP organizations participated in the programme. They included Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President, Panun Kashmir, H.L.Chatta, General Secretary, ASKPC, D.N.Kissu, Chairman-ADKPF, R.K.Raina, Senior Vice President-ASKPC and Virender Raina, Spokesperson-Joint Forum and Sardar Prem Singh Raina, President-KDSF. Dr. Jitender Singh, noted intellectual, was the guest speaker on the occasion.

In his inaugural address, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo said that those who forget the facts of history are condemned to live it again and that is why that the leadership of the community has to remain on guard against any hasty and apolitical move regarding the settlement of the community in Kashmir. Diatribe against the Pandit community by the separatist forces in Kashmir remains unabated despite complete banishment of the Pandits in Kashmir. It is the secessionist and terrorist forces who were responsible for the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Pandits.

Dr. Jitendra Singh in his presentation expressed the view that the Kashmiri Pandit community is the primary victim of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. They have been living as refugees in thjeir own country for no fault of theirs. They have shown enough courage to withstand the tough times over the last more3 than two decades. As the victims of human rights violations, they need attention and care. the failure of the government towards their concerns is a big tragedy of the independent India.

H.L.Chatta in his address said that the observance of the 19th January as the Holocast Day reminds the community of the historical facts regarding its persecution and exodus. The displacement and resettlement of the community in Kashmir are very serious political issues. The community has first and natural right over the territory of Kashmir and would return only when its geo-political aspirations as per Margdarshan resolution are fulfilled through political and constitutional means.

D.N.Kissu said that the Kashmiri Pandits are the indigenous people of Kashmir and the community would only return to its homeland in Kashmir at a time of its choosing where there will be full and free flow of Indian constitution.

Virender Raina said that it is ironical that the Government of India has ‘outsourced’ the conduct of its foreign relations to the secessionists, the results of which would be disastrous for the nation.
