| ITBP team lifts Ladakh Ice Hockey Championship | |  Leh, February 16 (Scoop News) - On the last leg of this year winter games, the final match of 4th Ladakh Winter Tourism Promotion Ice Hockey Championship played today at Karzoo Ice Hockey Rink. In a scintillating final match, ITBP team won the final match by 2 goals to nil.
The closing function was presided over by the Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar.
The main highlights of the concluding function was a Figure Skating Dance by the young boys and girls players of Leh on the tune and rhythm of an enthralling Bhutanese song beautifully choreographed by Dorjey Wangchok Mogol which has got huge applauses from the jam packed spectators of Karzoo Ice Hockey Rink.
Speaking on the occasion the CEC Rigzin Spalbar said that winter games has been proving a good medium in promoting winter tourism in Ladakh and the LAHDC would like to organize the winter games as a carnival in future in a more organized way. Mr. Spalbar urged the need of advance publicity for next winter games so that the players especially the upcoming young players would enthusiastically participate in the coming tournaments.
The CEC appreciated the organizers for holding the whole tournaments in a well prepared and planned way making all the competitions result oriented for both senior as well as junior players.
Mr. Spalbar also complimented the players of ITBP and the Ibex Challengers for exhibiting and maintaining a high degree of sportsmanship and discipline during the match.
Earlier, the Assistant Director Tourism, Sonam Dorje underlining the objective of sponsoring and holding the tournament said that tourism has been played a vital role in the economic growth of this region adding that it is gaining further momentum in Ladakh. Mentioning of visiting only 524 foreign tourists to Ladakh in the opening year of 1974, the AD Tourism said that 1,80,000 tourists have visited last year in Leh contributing enormously to the socio economic status of the people .
The final match was also witnessed by the Executive Councilor, CAPD Ghulam Abbas Abidi, Executive Councilor Heath, Dr. Sonam Wangchok and top ranking Army and ITBP officers.
