Roshni Act being amended:Saif-ullah
Rana pleads demands of lawyers
Jammu, February 18 (Scoop News) – Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mir Saif-ulah on Monday said that the government is contemplating to amend the Roshni Act to extend its applicability across the State for one year more.
During his interaction with various delegations and a large number of people at Sher-i-Kashmir Bhawan, held as part of the initiative taken by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to address to the issues of the people, the Minister said the step is aimed at disposing of the pending cases and covering those who could not benefit from the Act so far.
Elaborating, the Minister said that due to lack of awareness, especially in the far off and remote areas of the State, the people in possession of land have not been able to benefit from the scheme for one reason or the other. He said a massive drive is also being launched to generate awareness among the masses in this regard.
Mir Saif-ullah said that proper procedure will be adopted and necessary verification carried out while settling the cases of those in lease or possession of land.
Referring to the functioning of various Commissions, the Minister said that steps are underway to fill the vacancies to streamline their functioning.
Speaking on the occasion, Provincial President National Conference Jammu, Devender Singh Rana strongly advocated the issues raised by lawyers with regard to chambers in the court complex, saying these are required to be put in place expeditiously. For this purpose necessary funds are required to be allocated, he added.
Mr Rana urged the Minister for considering the appointment of competent lawyers as members in various Commissions besides their engagement as arbitrators to sort out various issues of arbitration.
The Provincial President urged the party workers to fan out in their respective areas and create awareness among the people about the policies and programmes of the party as also the government aimed at overall public good.
He described dedicated and missionary workers as the most valuable treasure and baseline of party who can greatly help in bringing about discernible socio-economic transformation in the society.
“Maintain close rapport with the people and help them in seeking solution to their problems”, Mr Rana said and assured them that the party rank and file will stand behind them like rock in their initiatives to forge amity and brotherhood in various segments of the society.
He said National Conference has always remained in the forefront in highlighting the urges and aspirations of the people and assured that it will continue to play its historic role in heralding peace and complete normalcy besides ensuring faster development of the State with particular emphasis on the remote and far off areas.
