Civil Defence & state disaster organized programme on Drug Abuse

March 5 (Scoop News) –Civil Defence organization along with the state disaster response force (SDRF) Kargil organized an awareness programme on Drug Abuse and Disaster mitigation at DIET Kargil on 5th march 2013.
The programme was organized under the supervision of DYSP(HQ\DAR) Losal and with an initiative of Dr. Anayat Mir ,Medical officer District Hospital Kargil. More than 60 teachers participated in the programme.
The session began with the introduction of Civil Defence organization and role of CD volunteers in disaster mitigation.
Keeping in view the vulnerability of multi hazards town Kargil for natural disasters like Earthquake, landslides, snow avalanches and floods the Chief warden Civil Defence Baramulla spoke on earthquake risk mitigation and adherence to Do’s and Don’ts during an earthquake. He stressed upon the retrofitting of earthquake hazards structures as per BIS as the district lies in Seismic Zone five.
Teachers were also sensitized about growing menace of Drug Abuse in youth and the usage of tobacco has increased to such an extent that it has now been referred to as ‘Tobacco Epidemic’. They were also informed about the treatment facilities provided by the J & K police for Drug De-Addiction at PCR Srinagar,Baramulla &Anantanag.
An interactive session was also held on these issues with the teachers who showed a great enthusiasm in posing a shower of queries.
