Cold Storage of Leh to be completed soon:Sonam Dorjey

Leh, March 7 (Scoop News) -In view of fast approaching agriculture season in Leh Distt and to systematize all the projects/schemes of Agriculture and Horticulture departments in consultation with Councilors, the Executive Councilor for Agriculture Sonam Dorjey today convened a meeting of councilors at Council Secretariat.
Addressing the meeting, the EC Sonam Dorjey put forth some important agendas before the meeting for open discussion which includes early completion of Cold Storage at Leh, Nubra and Khaltsi, mechanism for distributing certified potato seeds to all 9 blocks of Leh distt and formulation of progressive farmers lists constituency wise.
The EC informed the meeting that the consultant engaged for setting up of a Cold Storage at Leh has already done all necessary works and tender for the same is likely to be flouted soon and by the end of this summer season the cold storage at Leh will be completed. He urged all the councilors of Nubra and Khaltsi divisions to identify land in their areas for constructing the proposed Cold Storage at earliest.
Highlighting Council’s vision to make all produced potato of entire Leh district certified for exporting potato seeds to other parts of India, the EC Sonam Dorjey said that Agriculture Deptt. is in active process to produce high quality certified potato seeds from imported Breeder Seeds. He further said that last year the department has successfully produced 2nd level certified potato seeds from Stakmo and Saboo villages which will be distributed in all 9 blocks of Leh district on subsidized rate and urged upon the councilors to submit their requirements ensuring smooth distribution of the seeds. He also requested the councilors to submit the list of progressive farmers from their respective constituencies within a week period which will help Council in formulating future plans and projects effectively.
The meeting had a healthy and threadbare discussions on various ongoing schemes of agriculture and horticulture departments amidst constructive suggestions and feedbacks by councilors.
The Councilors who attended the meeting were Councilor Panamik Tsering Angchuk, Councilor Tegar Rigzin Wangdus, Councilor Diskit, Tsewang Rigzin, Councilor Tangtse Namgyal Dorjey, Councilor Chushul Namgial Phunchok, Councilor Kungyam Dorje Mutup, Counilor Igoo Tashi Norboo, Councilor Thiksay Tundup Spalzang, Councilor Upper-Leh Lobzang Nyantak, Councilor Phyang Tsering Sonam, Councilor Lamayuru Tsering Angchuk, Councilor Lingshet Sonam Dorje, Councilor Skyu –Markha, Tsering Punchok and Councilors nominated Lasu Shafi, Tsering Angmo and Gh.Syadain.
