| DGP asks Jawans to improve proficiency | | gain public confidence |
Srinagar, May 25 (Scoop News) –Acknowledging the professional hazards in tackling the laws and order situations, the Director General of Police (DGP), Mr, Ashok Prasad has exhorted the police force to continue restraint even at the grave provocations by the elements inimical to peace.
Addressing a maiden police durbar at Armed Police Complex here this afternoon, Prasad said “goodwill of the people is a valuable and dependable asset to meet the challenges”. He said public friendly image has benefited the force immensely and it will help in isolating the bad elements, as the people will be willing partners in maintaining peace and tranquillity. He lauded the force for keeping high stands of policing and making it accessible to the people round the clock for the help they need.
The DGP said that in order to strengthen the image of the organization among the people, a spirit of public service is to be inculcated among the force. Police public coordination is of paramount importance to keep the peace and order maintained in the society.
The durbar was attended by a large number of Jawans and officers from armed and IRP battalions of Kashmir Province. He urged the Jawans that their aim should be to serve the people and provide better police service at all levels.
Prasad appreciated the role of Jawans and officers of armed police, saying that they have demonstrated great valour and courage while maintaining law and order in the state. He said that all ranks of armed police stood shoulder to should with the executive police in maintaining law and order and assisting the public in the times of necessity. It was due to the tremendous efforts put in by the men in khaki that the security situation in the state has evolved positively besides people’s yearning for peace and normalcy. The brave jawans and officers of the force have faced many challenges and have come up to the expectation of the people, said the DGP. He said that public service is the prime duty of JKP and reiterated that safety of human lives and public property would be always on priority.
The DGP said that with the active cooperation of the people, the force has succeeded in eradicating the menace of militancy and restoring peace in the state. Stressing for further improvement in professionalism, he said that while dealing different situations in the field it should be ensured that common people do not face inconvenience during their normal activities.
During durbar, the DGP heard the problems put forth by the jawans and officers and assured that these would be looked into for appropriate action. He gave on spot directions to the concerned officers to solve the genuine problems on priority. He also assured that the PHQ would inform about the action taken of the representations submitted during the durbar. He asked them to work with discipline, zeal and utmost devotion to duty.
Talking about the welfare measures, the DGP said that welfare of jawans is on top of our agenda and the department has established a Central Welfare Fund for the support of jawans and their families. For this purpose the Organization has launched various welfare schemes to benefit the serving and retired police personnel. He also said that the procedure for providing relief to the jawans and their families has been eased to benefit them without consuming more time.
Referring to the relief measures provided to the police personnel and the families of martyrs, the DGP disclosed that during the current year till May 23rd, more than Rs. 10 crores have been disbursed among the personnel and their families including the SPOs. This includes special welfare relief, ex-gratia relief, welfare loans, and financial assistance to wards of martyrs, scholarship and freeship to the wards under study and retirement gifts to the personnel. He further said that during the previous year more than Rs. 21 crores were spent and disbursed under different welfare schemes benefiting 3823 police personnel and wards. He assured that the welfare schemes would be reviewed from time to time to benefit more personnel and their families.
Earlier, the Additional Director General of Police J&K, (Armed), S. M. Sahai and Inspector General of Police (Armed) Kashmir, Rauf-ul-Hasssan also addressed the durbar.
Among others, the durbar was attended by IsGP, AK Choudhary and AG Mir, DIsGP, Syed Afadul Mujtaba and Sheikh Abdul Hamid, AISGP, GH Bhat and Shabir Ahmed Malik, all Kashmir based Armed/IRP Commandants, ADO (PHQ), BA Shah and other police officers.
