Congress committed to strengthening Article 370: Vakil

Rafiabad,April 22, (Scoop News)-Sr. Vice President J&K Congress and Former minister Abdul Gani Vakil today said that Congress is committed to strengthening Article 370 and would oppose any move to dilute it tooth and nail. The forces trying to weaken or erode it were inimical to peace and tranquility, he said. Congress, he added will fight for it both inside the Parliament as well as outside. He said it is the duty of common masses to discourage the parties like BJP having agenda of dividing the country on religious lines and maintain the Mahatama's dream of secular India He urged voters to identify such forces in elections at their own level to uphold the sovereignty of this beautiful nation and mutual coexistence. Parties like BJP who are raising the issues like abrogation of Article 370 are doing it simply to meet their political ends. Vakil asked BJP to stay clear away from disturbing peace in the state and let the coalition government manage its affairs. He said Jammu and Kashmir, with the active support of central government, has come a long way in witnessing development, peace and prosperity and any such attempt to reverse this process would be countered head on. Vakil was addressing workers meetings in Hadipora, Pazalpora, Hib Dangerpora, Doabgah and Chatoosa in Rafiabad in Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency. Meetings were organized to ensure support for Coalition Candidate.
While addressing the gathering Vakil said that no political party in the State other than Congress has implemented pro-people policy or worked for the welfare of the people whether it was during Azad’s tenure as CM of J&K State or UPA’s ten year at Centre Congress has always worked for strengthening the hands of common masses especially downtrodden or people living in far flung areas. He said Ghulam Nabi Azad during his Short span of times as CM had taken some revolutionary measures to bring socio-economic transformation back on the rails in the State. He said that many historic decisions were taken by Azad led government for the welfare of the people but narrow political vision of PDP made them to make a political blunder of withdrawing support to the then most efficient Azad Government which pushed this State towards instability. A party who ditched Azad government cannot be trusted again. His only fault was that he was running the government efficiently which PDP could not digest and were scared of Azad’s growing popularity which made them to make that political blunder
Besides others who addressed the gathering include Sr. Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Shah, Haji Mohammad Afzal Khan, Tariq Ahmad Mir, Javed Makhdoomi and several others.
