Aga kick starts awareness programme in Budgam
Budgam, July 28, (Scoop News)-District Chief Medical officer, Budgam organized “Intensified Diarrhoea Control program” today in town hall, Budgam .The Program was launched by MLA Budgam, Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi.
The program has been launched state wide today and is a fortnight program aiming to prevent deaths of children below 5 years due to diarrhoe. The program has been clubbed with Breast Feeding week which is being commence from August 1st .
The thrust areas of the program were deliberated upon by various experts and included importance of Breast feeding in increasing immunity in children and preventing diarrhoea and other diseases. Much stress was laid on proper cleanliness and hygiene which includes washing hands properly before touching or feeding a child and inculcating hand washing habit in young children after using toilet and before eating meals .Use of ORS and zinc tablets were also came under discussion.
Demonstration on 8- steps, hand washing, making ORS and its correct administration to children of various age groups was made by a district resource person.
Various Accredited social health activists use of (ASHA) ,Doctors, Pharmacists ,District and block level medical practitioners and people from NRHM participated in the awareness program which shall end on August 8th .
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said that prevention is better than cure and prevention not only saves lives but saves time effort and resources also. “If awareness programmes are taken to communities with dedication, it’s a great success of medical profession as well as masses”, he added.
Highlighting the importance of breast feeding, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer said that breast feeding increases the immunity among infants. He stressed on starting breast feeding within and it should be continued up to minimum 6 months and maximum 2 years. He also laid stress on imparting proper and continuous training to ASHA workers for strengthening the community workers.
