DC Baramulla visits District Hospital, inaugurates Diarrhoea Control Fortnight
Baramulla, July 28, (Scoop News)-The Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone today inaugurated the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight at District Hospital here today.
The programme is observed all across the country from July 28 to August 8 and the aim of the program is to maximize the awareness level about diarrhea control in infants among the health workers and paramedics.
Addressing the inaugural function, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for maximizing the reach of awareness level about diarrhea control among children by taking the program to rural and far flung areas. He sought the integration of all the related agencies particularly ICDS, PHE and other line Departments linked with kids’ health in making such programs a success.
Dr. Lone also underscored the need for involving teachers and religious scholars in educating children and their parents about the need to maintain sanitation and cleanliness. He also suggested on preparing a database on the prevalence of diarrhea among children in the District.
Earlier, the Chief Medical Officer briefed the audience about the need and objectives of observing the Fortnight. He said Pediatric diarrhea accounts for 11 % of infant mortality in the country and it is the third major cause of death among children after pneumonia and post natal diseases. He said 1.5 lakh children in the District have been targeted to be covered under the program by providing them ORS and Zinc packs at their doorsteps.
Medical officers, heath workers besides a number of doctors and ASHA workers are attending the program.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner visited the various sections of the District Hospital and inspected its functioning. He interacted with several patients and attendants and sought their feedback about hospital functioning.
