Leh (Ladakh) Celebrates 68th Independence Day


Leh, August 15, (Scoop News)- With the rest of the country, the 68th Independence Day was celebrated at the historic polo ground of Leh today with pomp, gaiety, patriotic fervour and cultural displays. CEC, LAHDC, Rigzin Spalbar was the chief guest on the occasion unfurled the national tri-colour amidst the gathering of thousands of people, and parade contingents of police, paramilitary, NCC and school children. Before that CEC hoisted the national flag at Council secretariat in presence of all the Executive Councilors, Councilors, MLC, Leh and the staffs of Council office.

Addressing the gathering at polo ground, CEC said that Independence Day in particular reminds us of the sacrifices made by our forefather to attain this freedom and of the soldiers who laid their lives to give the people of this nation a free air to breadth and a save life to cherish. He asserted that this day is equally important for every individual of this nation to think and realise what more can we do for the nation rather than analysing what the country is doing for us. He made a special appeal to all the Ladakhis to realise of their civic duties and responsibilities and to participate in the growth and development of this region to their best capacity and contribute to make Ladakh an exemplary model not only in the country but in the entire world.

Spalbar advocated that Ladakh is already walking on the path of growth and development with support and assistance from State and Centre in terms of various projects, schemes, funds, subsidies and other benefits. However, reiterating LAHDC’s vision of ensuring sustainable development in Ladakh, CEC stressed on preserving and promoting our ancestral occupation, regional resources, language, script, ecology and rich art and cultural heritage. He further said that this dream has been put in reality with LAHDC implementing on this vision in sectors like power, education, sports, roads connectivity, agriculture promotion, employment generation for youth besides govt. jobs and village level development in the entire state. He urged the people of the region to exhibit endurance, diligence and dedication in attaining success in all the endeavours of Council and district administration.

CEC laid emphasised on acknowledging on this day the people whose good work inspires others to do something for their society and make everyone feel proud. He also made a mention of the successful conclusion of the 33rd Kalachakra in Leh and expressed great hope that with the blessings of His Hoilness the Dalai Lama the existence communal harmony in the district will further strengthen and unity will prevail as ever. He expressed gratitude to Rinpoches, LBA, LGA, Distt Administration and the people of Ladakh in this regard and asserted that it’s a moment for all the Ladakhis to feel proud and take it as a lesson for future.

In his speech, Spalbar assured all the Ladakhis of a corruption free and transparent work environment, timely completion of developmental works and to make Ladakh self sustainable and independent in all aspect. He said that every Ladakhi should feel proud of being an Indian as they are the real frontier savers of the country.

March past followed by Mass PT and colourful cultural programme was also presented on the occasion and later, prizes were distributed.

Like in Leh, the sub-divisional HQs, Tehsil HQs, Block HQs and Naibats of Leh district also celebrated the 68th Independence Day with great patriotic fervor and gaiety.
