Kargil celebrates I-Day
Asgar Ali hoists National Flag

Kargil, August 15,(Scoop News)_Independence Day was celebrated at Kargil with immense enthusiasm and gaiety.
Chief Executive Councilor Haji Asgar Ali Karbalaie hoisted the National Tricolor at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium, Kargil and took salute at an impressive march past consisting of the contingents of Jammu and Kashmir Police, NCC, Army Band Party besides government and private schools.
Speaking on the occasion Karbalaie recalled the supreme sacrifices of the national heroes who laid down their precious lives for the freedom of the country. He said that the freedom has been won only after paying a lot of sacrifices and it is the duty of every citizen to maintain and uphold the principles of unity and integrity. Karbalaie said that post independence, the country has made rapid strides in all walks of life taking India to greater heights and similarly Kargil too has achieved progress on every front.
While briefing about some major developmental activities in the district, Karbalaie said that the 220 kilometers long Kargil-Zanskar road has got the status of national highway, and Rs 1100 crore have been sanctioned for its expansion and improvement, adding that work on this project will be started soon. He said that Rs 10 crore have been sanctioned for pashmina development in the district, while as Rs 50 crore is also expected to be approved for the development of the apricot sector. The CEC further said that the recently approved administrative units in the district will become functional shortly. Karbalaie said that Sankoo and Shakar Chicken sub divisions will be provided 24 hour power supply from Chutuk Hydel Project by the end of the current month.
Colorful cultural presentations by the artists of Cultural Academy and the school children mesmerized the dignitaries and the general public on the occasion.
Among others who were present on the occasion included Executive Councilors, Councilors, Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kargil, civil and army officers, representatives of various social, political and religious organizations, and a mammoth gathering of the general public.
Independence Day was also celebrated at Sub Division Drass, Sankoo, and Zanskar where the respective sub divisional magistrates/ tehsildars hoisted the national flag, and took salute at the march past. Colorful cultural programmes were also presented by the folk artists and the school children.
