Rajendra for coordinated efforts to improve crime investigation methods
Srinagar, August 19, (Scoop News)- Emphasizing on coordinated efforts among the investigating agencies, the Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar has said that Crime Wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police has an important role in the investigation field adding its working needs further improvement by adopting latest techniques of investigation for speedy disposal of crime cases.
Rajendra was addressing officers of State Crime Wing at Crime Headquarters here this afternoon. The meeting was called as a part of series of meetings by the DGP to review the functioning of different wings of the Organization. Besides ADGP (Headquarters) PHQ, S. P. Vaid, the meeting was attended by IGP (Personnel), A. K. Choudhary and IGP (Headquarters), Deepak Kumar.
Addressing the meeting, Rajendra said that crime detection and control is a major responsibility of Jammu and Kashmir Police besides other areas of policing and crime wing is doing a commendable job in the investigation field. The Wing has to improve its efficiencies to strengthen the investigation methods by adopting modern techniques and using latest equipments for crime control and detection. He said that criminals pose a great threat to the peaceful atmosphere in the society and a crime is basic cause of serious situations, which the police have to face. Besides strengthening our investigation work, the role of civil society cannot be undermined in curbing the crimes and for this purpose we have to seek the public cooperation to get desired results, said Rajendra.
The DGP stressed upon the officers to chalk out a mechanism to create public awareness against the causes and consequences of crimes. He said that every member of the society has to realize his or her responsibility in stopping a crime before it poses a threat to the society. This tendency could lead us to make a crime free society and JKP taking other stakeholders into confidence, should organize awareness programmes at different levels including educational institutions and citizen’s fora.
Rajendra said that Crime Wing of State Police is purely an investigating agency which deals with criminal cases of special nature to bring the culprits to justice. He said that the two Branches of the Wing with headquarters in twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar have investigated various cases of special nature including embezzlements, thefts and murders. With their tireless efforts many scandals were unearthed and the investigations taken to logical end. Performance of the Wing has been hailed by the public at different occasions and levels, he added.
Earlier, IGP Crime, Syed Javed Mujtaba Geelani briefed the meeting about the working of and improvements made in Crime Wing. He said that their focus has remained to improve the working of the Wing and strive to consolidate the areas of strength. He apprised the meeting through detailed power point presentation about the successes and achievements made in the investigation of various criminal and other important cases.
Geelani said that the investigation of public interest cases and their logical conclusion in a transparent and speedy manner has strengthened the image of JKP among the masses. With the collective efforts of the staff and the cooperation of people we have succeeded to bring the culprits to justice, he said. He also apprised the meeting about the changes and improvements made on administrative front to modernize its functioning.
The DGP, expressing his satisfaction over the functioning of Crime Wing, stressed for making more efforts to improve their efficiency in the areas which needs special focus. He assured that all possible support would be made available by PHQ to improve functioning of the Wing in fields like investigation and administration. He issued on spot instructions to strength the manpower and infrastructure of the Wing to make its working more effective.
Rajendra said that PHQ is focusing to bring visible changes in the working of its subordinate wings and upgrade their proficiency in public service. Digitalization of records, evaluation of performance and improvements in working facilities with the help of modern techniques and acquaintance with professional skills are being focused regularly, the DGP said.
The meeting was also attended by DIG (Crime J&K) Johny William, AIG (Provision/Transport), Aftab Ahmad Kakroo, SO to IGP, M.L Mehra, DDP Reyaz Ahmad, SP Crime Kashmir, Aftab Ahmad and other police officers.
