Hindu can be CM of J&K, asserts BJP

Jammu,August 22,(Scoop News)- There is nothing in the law or the Constitution of India or the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir which bars a Hindu from becoming the Chief Minister of the state, party state spokesperson Arun Kumar Gupta has said.
The controversy started by the National Conference, the Congress and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on the issue is entirely misplaced. All the three parties are trying to mislead the people of the state in an attempt to derail the BJP bandwagon, Gupta added.
The three parties are unnerved by the success of the BJP in the state and want to thwart its rise to power in the coming Legislative Assembly elections. Every day, more and more people from other parties as also from different walks of life are joining the BJP due to the leadership being provided to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he pointed out.
In fact, Hindus are the largest minority in the state of Jammu and Kashmir where over 70 per cent are Muslims. Hindus constitute less than 23 per cent and have every right to aspire for the top political post in the state.
Reacting to National Conference general secretary Mustafa Kamal’s statement that only a ``Kashmir Valley Muslim’’ can be the CM of the state, Gupta condemned in strong words. He said that Kamal should have been more specific and said that only a member of his Abdullah family can become the CM. This is dynastic politics at its worst and in a democracy like our country it has no place in public domain, Arun Kumar Gupta said.
There is nothing wrong in talking about the possibility of a Hindu CM for Jammu and Kashmir. Similarly, members of other communities too, including Buddhists or Ladakh or Sikhs or Kargil Shias have a right to aspire for the post of the CM, Gupta added.
In the coming days, under the dynamic leadership of party’s national president Amit Shah, the party will chalk out its strategy to realize its dream of Mission 44+. Several Union ministers are scheduled to visit the state for helping the party to fulfill this mission, he said.
Instead of creating controversies regarding the possibility of a Hindu CM in Jammu and Kashmir, the parties like the NC and the Congress will do well to review their non-performance. They should be ready to demit office as people will vote them out anyway, he pointed out.
The BJP is committed to all-round development of all the three regions of the state in an equitable manner. It believes that for too long, the regions of Jammu and Ladakh have not been given their due and been discriminated against. This will end with the coming assembly elections when the BJP rides to power, he said.
