JKRDS organizes Parents Day
Gul presents Madr-e-Meharban Awards
Srinagar, August 23, (Scoop News)-The Jammu and Kashmir Rural Development Society (JKRDS) on Saturday organized a Parents Day and presentation of Madr-e-Meharbaan Awards-2014 here. The award is presented every year to the individuals who perform commendable job in social work and serve the society.
Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul, who is also Chairman of JKRDS, was the chief guest while as Legislator, Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal was the guest of honour on the occasion.
A debate on the topic "Immediate role of the parents and the teachers while curbing the menace of the present increase in the drug addiction" was held on the occasion in which students from different schools of the valley participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Gul highlighted the role of parents and teachers in curbing the menace of drug addiction by keeping close vigil on wards. He emphasized the need for imbibing good moral values and imparting moral teaching in the educational institutions. He said continuous and cordial relations of parents and teachers can save the youth for indulging in bad habits like drug addiction.
The Speaker called for organizing workshops and debates in the educational institutions to sensitize the students and the people about the ill effects of drug and other narcotics.
The Speaker presented Madr-e-Meharbaan Award-2014 to a group of citizens, who in spite of physically infirm are serving the society. These are Riyaz Ahmad Beig, Mrs. Shaheena and S. Rajinder Singh. Riyaz is a District Social Welfare Officer who lost his both arms in an accident and by dint of hard work has become an officer by qualifying Kashmir Administrative Service and serving the society. Mrs. Shaheena is pursuing MBBS in Government Medical College, Srinagar. S. Rajinder Singh is a Social activist from Tral and working for the welfare of the society. The Madr-e-Meharbaan Award was also presented to Bibi Parvez, Yasmena, Shahida and Tahira for their services made for the development and welfare of the society.
A film of the activities of JKRDS carried out during last year was also presented on the occasion.
Legislator Dr. Mustafa Kamal was also spoke on the occasion, describing Madr-e-Meharban as epitome of courage and compassion who remains fore front for the betterment and welfare of the people and prosperity of the State. He said that Madr-e-Meharban was noble and a righteous woman.
Later, prizes were distributed among the students who participated in the debate competition.
Among others, former Minister Rampaul, hundreds of delegates of JKRDS, scholars, Parents, students and prominent citizens were also present on the occasion.
