A&H department organizes one day Vegetable –cum-Fruit Exhibition



Leh, August 30, (Scoop News)- To encourage the farmers in agriculture, horticulture and floriculture sectors keeping in view the growing demands of vegetable and fruits in Leh, the Agriculture and Horticulture department organized a day long Vegetable –cum-Fruit Exhibition at Indoor Stadium, Leh today. The exhibition was inaugurated by CEC, LAHDC Rigzin Spalbar who was chief guest on the occasion while as Executive Councilor for Agriculture Sonam Dorjey was guest of honour on the occasion. Tremendous response of farmers was seen in the exhibition displaying variety of fruits like apricot, walnut and newly introduced fruits in region such as almond, Litchi grown in lower bet of Sham region.
Impressing and appreciating the farmers for producing and displaying high quality agriculture, horticulture and floriculture products in the exhibition, CEC Rigzin Spalbar said that organizing such exhibitions not only provide great platform for the farmers to showcase their potentials, but also unite public representatives, officers and farmers who can change the future of Ladkah with their collaborative effort and wisdom. Talking about sustainable development of Ladakh which can only be achieved through land based economy, Spalbar said that farmers of Ladakh must go for value addition, mechanization and organic farming adding that producing more and more cash crops and exotic vegetables should be over ultimate goal.
Appreciating the endeavours of Agriculture, Horticulture, DIHAR, SKUAST, CAZRI and other institutions who are working for the betterment of Ladkahi farmers since many years, CEC urged upon these departments to work for the farmers of Ladakh in close coordination and avoid rivalry among them.
Executive Councilor for Agriculture Sonam Dorjay said that purpose of this exhibition is to encourage all farmers and the department who have been making sincere efforts to ensure that all the government schemes and subsidies to reach to remotest place and uniformly distributed to beneficiaries. He expressed concern over lack of interest among youth towards the agriculture sector and urged upon the parents to engage their children in farming. He also detailed about the schemes of Agriculture and Horticulture in the district.





Earlier, presenting the welcome speech Chief Agriculture Officer Tashi Tsetan said the main purpose of Exhibition is to provide common platform to the all stakeholders especially for progressive farmers to gain experience and technical know-how to make their ancestral occupation more profitable and remunerative. He also mention in detail about the seeds, fertilizers distributed to the farmers on subsidized rates adding that agriculture department is focusing regions area wise as per the potentials of soil.

The exhibition was also participated by Executive Councilors Dr. Sonam Wangchuk, Gyurmet Dorjey and Lassu Shafi, Concilor Thiksay, Phyang and Panamik. The Sarpanches of nearby villages also attended the programme.
At the end, the chief guest distributed prizes among the farmers.
