| Parra expresses concern over latest arrest spree in Kashmir | |
Srinagar, August 31, (Scoop News)- Terming the chief minister, Omar Abdullah as the main enemy of Kashmiri youth Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youth president, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra has said instead of having done anything better for young population the chief minister has been working on a dangerous mission to make them feel insecure both in-and-outside the state.
“Whether in Jammu & Kashmir or outside the state the youth have faced torture, abuse and humiliation during last more than five years of Omar Abdullah’s government,” he said in a statement.
Expressing concern over the latest arrest spree across Kashmir valley particularly in Pulwama district, Parra said the government can’t silence the voices of the youth who are fighting for justice and democratic rights by such draconian and barbaric methods. “The latest arrests spree of youth is highly atrocious and undemocratic,” he said adding the government repression is forcing the youth to take up the extreme steps.
Parra said it has been the policy of ruling National Conference to suppress the youth with the ‘aim’ to continue in power. But, he said, things have changed now; the more they will try to defeat the youth the more it will go against their dirty designs.
Parra said the youth is a force to reckon with and the PDP understands this fact unlike the NC which always tried to push them to the wall. “It is unfortunate that Omar Abdullah being the young chief minister didn’t even try to relate with the youth and instead followed the heavy arm method to silence them,” he added. The PDP youth president said the chief minister has been only using brute force and oppressive methods like PSA, chili grenades, pellet guns and pepper gas to reach out to youth. “His ‘handholding’ of the youth has actually been through handcuffing,” he said.
He also expressed concern over the continuous attacks on the Kashmiri students studying outside the state and said these happenings are dangerous and will lead us to more trouble. He said it is the responsibility of the state government to ensure safety of all Kashmiris living outside the state but unfortunately it has not been acting seriously to stop the recurrence of such sad incidents. “The state government can’t shy away from its responsibilities as it is duty bound to ensure safety of its citizens anywhere in the country,” he said. He called upon the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to intervene into the matter.
