6th Annual Harmukh Ganga (Ganbal) Yatra 2014 commences
Kashmiri Pandits from different parts join Gangbal Yatra in Kashmir


Naran Naag (Gandherbal), September 01, (Scoop News)- The 6th annual yatra for Historic Harmukh Ganga (Gangbal) Yatra 2014, which was started in 2009 after 100 years at the mountainous North East Harmukh Range, 14500 ftmabove sea level, commenced here today amid religious enthusiasm by\ Kashmiri Pandits.


Many Kashmiri Pandit pilgrims today joined the 6th Annual Harmukh Ganga (Gangbal) Yatra 2014 organised by Harmukh Ganga (Gangbal) Trust (HGGT) the sole trust authorized to organize the Gangbal Yatra.

The Kashmiri Pandit pilgrims who arrived in Srinagar on August 31st from all over India assembled at Naran Naag in Kangan tehsil of Ghanderbal district of Kashmir division of Jammu and Kashmir today to start the formal yatra under the leadership of Vinod Pandit, General Secretary of HGGT, At 11 am from historic Naraan Naag temple.

Giving details King Bharati Vice President of the Trust said that the trust managing the activities of the yatra, the pilgrimage has started in a well organised system of registration of pilgrims giving them various facilities which have been well appreciated by the yatries who joined the pilgrimage since last year.

He said that the yatries assembled at Srinagar on August 31 and proceeded towards Naran Naag in Kangan Tehsil, of Ganderbal district today morning where from they proceeded on foot towards holy Gangbal lake for an 8 hour long foot journey to perform Shardha of the departed souls and ancestors of the community on September 02, on the auspicious day of Ganga Ashtami alognwith individual Shradha by the pilgrims.


Mr, Bharati said that the yatra has seen significant growth over the past six adding the Charri Pujan of Ganga Charri at Naran Naag was conducted at 8 am today while the Holy Charri was flagged off at 8:30 am.
Amit Raina a senior functionary of HGGT from Delhi said that Kashmiri Pandits have been immersing the mortal remains of their departed relatives at Gangabal from times immemorial which however was discontinued after turmoil adding now Kashmiri Pandits have initiated the regular annual Harmukh Ganga yatra for the last six years in which
many Kashmiri Pandits have participated with enthusiasm taken holy dip at the Harmukh Ganga.

While informing about the annual Gangbal yatra being organized by HGGT for the last five years Usha Nakhasi said that HGGT was also exploring the possibility of using the traditional route of Chittar Gul so that devotees can pay obeisance at Sukh Sar and Dukh Sar on the way to Harmukh Ganga adding even though it was proposed fro this year but due to some reasons could not be taken up.

HGGT senior members who attended the yatra include Vinod ji Pandita, Amit Raina, Rashnik Kher, Sunil Trakru (Punjab incharge), Ravinder Badam, Chand Ji Bhat, Ashok Singh Jamwal, Rajan Nakhasi, Sanjit Badam, Pradeep Pandita, Rajinder Raina, Pushpa Raina, Anoop Bhat and Baby Pandita.
