CS, DGP visit south Kashmir
Review rescue, relief operations
Srinagar,September 14, (Scoop News)-Chief Secretary Mohd. Iqbal Khandey along with Director General of Police K. Rajindra today visited south Kashmir areas and took stock of various relief and rehabilitation operations undertaken by the administration.
They visited Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian districts and took a detailed review of the pace and progress of relief works undertaken by each district administration after the recent natural disaster.
While briefing about the relief operations in Anantnag district, the Deputy Commissioner informed that 56 villages including 18 mohallas of the town have been worst affected by the flood, adding that 318 tents, 3700 blankets and over 150 quintals of rice has already been distributed among the affected.
The Chief Secretary directed for immediate supply of free ration to the affected and called for special attention to be laid on cleanliness in the towns so as to avoid any epidemic. Safe potable water should be made available to all, he added.
He enjoined upon the district administrations to ensure that coordinated efforts are put in by all the concerned departments so that required relief and rehab measures reach to those who are in immediate need of the same.
He said Special Commissioners have been deputed to oversee the rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations.
In separate briefs the Deputy Commissioners gave account of the loss of lives, damages to houses and public infrastructure. They also projected requirements of additional tents, blankets, vaccines and chlorine tablets.
The Chief Secretary had yesterday visited north Kashmir and reviewed the flood situation and the relief measures undertaken in the northern districts.
