WCF Kashmir celebrates International Snow Leopard Day


Srinagar, October 24, (Scoop News)- On the occasion of International Snow Leopard Day, the Wildlife Conservation Fund (WCF) celebrated the International Snow Leopard Day along with the Diwali on Thuresday evening at Dachigam National Park, Srinagar, Kashmir. The Event was supported by Sanctuary Asia.

The Purpose of the meeting was to discuss the post flood strategies to address the environmental concerns, most importantly the need to have a comprehensive Environmental Policy for the state of Jammu & Kashmir. The function was attended by IFS officers from the Forest and Wildlife Department, volunteers of WCF and experts from SKUAST - K and University of Kashmir.

The WCF team headed by Nadeem Qadri, Environmental Lawyer & Executive Director, WCF briefed the participants about the International Snow Leopard Day and its importance related to the State of J&K.

The event was great combination of naturalist, environmental enthusiasts, government officials, forestry experts and researchers.

WCF said that we are grateful to O.P. Sharma, IFS for sharing his valuable inputs with us about the flora of Dachigam National Park, we appreciate his great contribution for the State of Jammu & Kashmir as a selfless naturalist and TREE TALK crusader.

WCF had decided to organize such events on regular basis to sensitize the people at large about the growing issues including Climate Change, encroachment of water bodies, loss of forests and many more issues related to the ecology.

WCF also thanks to Bittu Saghal, Founder, Sanctuary Asia for inspiration and support to the Wildlife Conservation Fund.


It may be mentioned that The Wildlife Conservation Fund, founded in 2010, has a clear mission to save wildlife and wilderness across the Jammu & Kashmir. Our story began in early 2000’s when we campaigned to protect migratory birds at the wetlands in Pampore, Kashmir against poaching. Today, we protect many of the J&K’s iconic creatures including Hangul (Kashmir Deer), Markhor, Snow Leopard, Western Tragopan and many more.

During last 4 years, Wildlife Conservation Fund have focused the power of our conservation work and management on Dachigam National Park, Conservation Reserves of Khrew and Khanmoh and Wetland Reserves in Pampore, Kashmir.

Wildlife Conservation Fund currently manage about 1 National Park, 2 Conservation Reserves & 4 Wetland Reserves, and educate students on important issues affecting our wildlife in the State of J&K. ...
