BJP hails PM‘s package for 1984 riots Sikh victims

Jammu, October 31, (Scoop News)- Appreciating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative of announcing Rupees five lakhs to the next of kin of each of 1984 Sikh killings, BJP JK Cell State Convenor & Retired IGP, Sardar S.S. Bijral, said that a hope of justice has now arisen as PM seems serious and committed to share pain and sufferings of the Sikh families who have been running from pillar to post for the last 30 years to get justice, but all in vain.
Addressing a press conference at party headquarters on Friday, Bijral said that the killings which the then Congress government had termed as anti-Sikh riots, were in fact carried out in an organized manner for three consecutive days with no effort made on part of the government to check them unambiguously revealed about the identity of the perpetrators. Any doubt left was cleared when then Prime Minister of India in a statement had justified the attacks on Sikhs by saying ‘when a heavy tree falls earth shakes’. The killings were globally condemned but the most tragic part of the riots keeps hurting Sikhs that till date no concrete steps has been taken to bring the culprits to book. He said that although numerous Commissions had been constituted to provide just lip service as justice was delayed.
Bjiral said that the riots, those of Delhi in particular, resulted into killings, loot and fire of the properties, houses and precious lives of thousands of Sikhs for none of their crime. The Congress government at the centre could have controlled the killings and losses but as alleged, its tall leaders were themselves leading the mobs which was targeting the Sikhs only in every locality of the capital.
Now with the BJP led NDA government in power at the centre and the fact that whatever little action that had come about in cases of 1984 killings of Sikhs was only when it was BJP led government in Delhi under Madan Lal Khurana. Now, with Narendra Modi coming forward to wipe out tears of Sikhs, the aggrieved Sikh community is expecting expeditious free and fair trial in the long delayed cases adding that the cases be investigated on the lines of action taken in Gujarat riots of 2001 through constitution of SIT under the supervision of Supreme Court.
BJP State Spokesperson Balbir Ram Rattan was also present in the press conference.
