NHM organizes two days ‘Orientation-cum-Dissemination workshop on Maternal & Child Health Guidelines’


Leh,November 21, (Scoop News)- Chief Medical Officer Leh today started a two days ‘Orientation-cum-Dissemination workshop on Maternal & Child Health Guidelines’ organised by National Health Mission (NHM), Jammu & Kashmir. Dr Saleem Ur Rehman Director Health Services Kashmir and Dr Yashpal Sharma Mission Director National Health Mission J&K presided over the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Saleem Ur Rehman talked about the success of this scheme which had robbed in stakeholders like W.H.O. and others indicating its improvement in last 4 to 5 years which further prove that this scheme is not static but dynamic. With the support, guidance and efforts of NRHM there has been a noticeable improvement in health care, said Dr Rehman. Appreciating the work culture of Leh and Kargil districts he gave some suggestions and assured for looking into matters that were earlier put forward by CMOs Leh and Kargil.
Dr Yashpal Sharma Mission Director National Health Mission J&K talking of the operational guidelines requested the members present to go through the guidelines for its proper implementation. He further addressed in detail the issues taken up on block and district levels.
Earlier, Chief Medical Officer Leh Dr Phunchok Wangchuk welcoming the guests put forth some difficulties faced by the medical staff in exhibiting their services successfully specially in the far-flung areas wherein they have to work on health of a patient in difficult and challenging conditions. He therefore requested for sufficient funds for purposes like heating system for the health institutions, ambulance facilities on emergency basis for places like Kharnak, Samad, Chumur and Hemya of Nyoma block and Phobrang, Sato and Shayok villages of Tangtse block.
Catering to a scattered population of approximately 1.10 lakh during winter season and approx 1.60 during summer season because of influx of labourers and families of army personnel, and due to long cold weather condition of Ladakh it becomes even more difficult to answer an emergency call where it takes 3 to 4 days to reach some areas, said Dr Wangchuk. He further requested to increase the batches for training for nurses and ANMs. Drawing their attention he further said that there are 28 posts of Assistant Surgeons lying vacant including 18 of NHM which is affecting in delivering quality health services and also talked about the non-inclusion of incentives for the contractual doctors in the current budget sheet.
Echoing the words of Dr Wangchuk the Chief Medical Officer Kargil Dr Shabir Hussain also stated some problems faced by the medical staff of Kargil district and put forth some requests so that medical staff can deliver their services satisfactorily even in remote areas like Zanskar valley.
Later two documents titled – ‘Performance Review Document by NHM’ and ‘Operational Guidelines-2014-15’ and a newsletter titled ‘Newsletter NHM J&K’ was released on the occasion.
Block Medical Officers, doctors and programme management unit of all blocks of Leh and Kargil districts were also present on the occasion.
During the day, presentations on introduction of Mother & Newborn Health tool-kit, orientation regarding New Guidelines in Maternal Health and Child Health were presented.
