Parliamentary Committee Reviews Jan Aushadhi Scheme


Jammu ,November 25, (Scoop News)- In a significant development to boost the Jan Aushadhi Scheme at all India level, the General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Ms. Roma Wani was recently invited by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers to the Parliament House for exchange of ideas to make Jan Aushadhi Scheme successful in the country. Pertinently, Indian Red Cross Society, J&K State Branch is the implementation partner of the Jan Aushadhi Scheme in J&K State. From the time Ms. Wani took over as General Secretary, IRCS-J&K in March 2013, the Jan Aushadhi has gathered great momentum in the State and the same was recognized and appreciated by the Parliamentary Standing Committee. Ms. Roma Wani was among the very few invitees other than the Hon’ble Committee Members in the interactive meeting that took place in the Parliament House, New Delhi.
While interacting with the Hon’ble Members of the Parliamentary Committee Ms. Wani provided details of the progress achieved in respect of Jan Aushadhi in the State. She also invited the attention of the Committee towards major challenges being faced by the State Branch in implementation of the Scheme which includes, among other things, non-availability of full range of medicines enlisted in the Scheme. The General Secretary informed the Hon’ble Members that 08 JanAushadhi Drug Stores are presently operational in the State and 02 stores are ready for inauguration at Govt. Medical College Hospital and SMGS Hospital Jammu. Besides, space for establishing stores at Kathua, Samba and Ramban Districts has been identified and their operationalization is under process. The Committee was also apprised about the loss of Jan Aushadhi medicines worth approx. Rs. 3.20 Lac in the recent floods. Ms. Wani appealed the Committee to extend support to the Branch for resurrecting the Jan Aushadhi Store at IRCS, Exchange Road Srinagar office which was destroyed by the floods.
