10th SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelan concludes with musical extravaganza featuring legendary
and young musician


New Delhi, November 27, (Scoop News)- SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) organised the 10th Annual edition of its three day long prestigious SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelan recently at the Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi. The festival had enthralling performances by Music legend Pt. Bhajan Sopori (Santoor), Music Maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori (Santoor), Pt. Debu Chaudhuri & Prateek Chaudhuri (Sitar), Ajay Prasanna (Flute), Shubhendra Rao (Sitar), Saskia Rao De Haas (Cello), Kaivalya Kumar (Vocal) amongst other.
Hon’ble Shri L.K. Advani inaugurated the 10th Annual SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelan, the topmost classical music festival of Delhi and one of the most prestigious festivals of the country. On this occasion Sh. Advani along with music legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori, Chairman SaMaPa, presented the prestigious SaMaPa awards 2014 to various luminaries of Indian music. ‘SaMaPa Vitasta Award 2014’ was presented to Pandit Debu Chaudhuri for his lifetime contribution to the field of Hindustani Classical Music - Sitar (Delhi). SaMaPa Award for contribution to folk culture was presented to Shri Munir Ahmad Mir for his dedication and immense contribution to the Kashmiri light and folk music (Srinagar, J&K). Smt. Subhra Mazumdar received the ‘SaMaPa Acharya Abhinavgupt Samman’ for her lifetime contribution to the field of music as a music critic (Delhi). ‘SaMaPa Yuva Ratan Samman’ has been conferred upon the young vocalist Sh. Dhananjay Hegde for his achievements in the field of Hindustani Classical Music -Vocal (Bangalore).
SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelan is a gateway for the young musicians with exceptional talent getting their first stage in a prestigious festival along with senior legendary maestros of the country. The festival was organized in collaboration with Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, Sahitya Kala Parishad and IFFCO. The festival also featured a Painting Exhibition organized in collaboration with the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages featuring works of the artist of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. SaMaPa is acclaimed as a Cultural Bridge of the State of Jammu & Kashmir with rest of the country and to have created a new generation of music connoisseurs. SaMaPa widens its horizon into the general masses by creating the right platform for better appreciation and understanding of the traditional music and its technicalities, and enabling them to utilize the power of music in leading a more balanced life, as well as exploring opportunities with music as means to their employment.
The musical saga commenced with presentation of Swar-Laya-Samwad (Panch Tatva) coordinated by Pt. Vijay Shanker Mishra with young generation musicians like Sameer Bhalerao, Anjani Mishra and Nitin Sharma (Vocal) and Bharat Mishra, Deepak Sahai and Sachin Sharma (Tabla). It was followed by a musical extravaganza with Santoor Maestro and Music Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori, who in his own style presented various aspects of what we call its own kind of music which enthralled everyone sitting in the auditorium. First day of the festival concluded with presentation of Kathak Dance by Rekha Nadgauda, Aditi Nadgauda Panse with Kirti Kala Mandir dance troupe. Second day saw the performances by Ajay Prasanna & Sugato Bhaduri (Flute & Mandolin) followed by Vocal recital by Dhananjay Hegde. The second day concluded on a high with scintillating performance by Father-Son duo Pt. Debu Chaudhuri & Prateek Chaudhuri on Sitar. The third and final day commenced with jugalbandi of Sitar & Cello by Shubhendra Rao & Saskia Rao De Haas followed by a Vocal recital by Kaivalya Kumar. The 3 day music festival concluded with a mesmerizing & unforgettable Santoor recital by the living legend, the Saint of the Santoor and the King of Strings Pt. Bhajan Sopori.
Many distinguished guests like John Samuel (Member Postal Board), Arun Kumar (ACP Delhi), Suresh Goel (former DG ICCR), Dr. Rafeeq Masoodi (DDG Doordarshan), V. Ponnuraj (Private Secretary, Ministry of Law, Govt. Of India), Sheo Narayan Singh Anived (eminent writer and artist and Commissioner Customs), Pt. Vijay Shankar Mishra and Pt. Ravindra Misra (eminent musicologists) and others were seen enjoying the festival including a galaxy of musicians.
