NC is the bulwark of J&K’s political individuality and dignity :Omar
We will not rest until AFSPA is revoked from J&K

Noorabad/Homshalibug November 27(Scoop News)-Chief Minister and NC Working President Omar Abdullah Thursday said that National Conference was the bulwark of J&K’s political individuality and dignity and that BJP should try to acquaint itself with the glorious history of J&K’s political struggle against autocracy, tyranny and suppression. While addressing successive election rallies in Noorabad and Homshalibug in South Kashmir on Thursday, Omar Abdullah said that National Conference was committed to its political agenda of seeking the restoration of Internal Autonomy, safeguarding Article 370 and the revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from J&K.

“A slew of BJP leaders and RSS ideologues are bee lining into J&K and announcing their plans to hold ‘closed-door’ meetings for their purported ‘Mission 44 plus’. In Jammu and Ladakh, BJP leaders speak of abrogating Article 370 while in Kashmir they are trying their best to be silent on Article 370. Another new slogan from the BJP is to change the name of J&K and in doing so they want to fragment our State by planting seeds of sub-regional animosity. While speaking about Article 370, BJP leaders invariably and intentionally refer to provisions of the State Subject Law. So it has become evident that BJP plans to fiddle with our State Subject Law too if given an opportunity. While on one hand BJP says that Article 370 is not an election issue, their Home Minister the very same day says that Article 370 is allegedly a ‘national issue’. This effort to speak in multiple voices is deliberate and BJP has elaborate plans to harm our political individuality, special status and Article 370 under this smokescreen of confusion. I would like to take this opportunity to ask BJP to acquaint itself and its leaders with the history of our political struggle against oppression, tyranny, monarchy and autocracy. They should read those chapters of history where Sher-e-Kashmir’s struggle of decades in jail is noted with golden letters as a valiant example of how proud we are of our political dignity and how we can never allow any political force to rob us of our political rights”, Omar Abdullah said while addressing the election rallies in South Kashmir.

Speaking about NC’s relentless struggle to get AFSPA removed from the State, Omar Abdullah said that National Conference would continue to strive for the revocation of an Act that has no place in a violence-free, modern and civilized society that has made a spirited recovery from a prolonged political turmoil. “We don’t treat the Kashmir Issue as a matter of electioneering or politicking like our opponents do. We have always – both in opposition and while in power – advocated the acceptable resolution of the Kashmir Issue according to the aspirations of our people and we will continue to do that as much as BJP turns down our political demands. Our honesty is in our struggle and that will remain unblemished. You will never see us wavering in expressing our political agenda and in putting forth the sentiments and aspirations of our State and its people”, Omar Abdullah said.

The NC Working President said that National Conference has never and will never ask for votes for the resolution of the Kashmir Issue but will rather continue to strive for it on a sustained basis irrespective of electoral politics. “We have delivered a historic, transparent and landmark tenure of good-governance, employment generation, fiscal growth and infrastructure creation in a State that had been ravaged by political instability and uncertainty. We never ran away from our responsibilities even when circumstances were extremely volatile. It is very easy to build up on an excuse and run away from one’s responsibilities and it is quite another thing to stick to your mission despite all odds. I assure all of you that National Conference will always work for your interests in a responsible, sober and sustained manner. We don’t believe in melodrama and theatrics. We don’t believe in disrupting the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly and holding the development of an entire State hostage to partisan interests. We believe in development for our people with their self-esteem, political aspirations and dignity being non-negotiable for us. Your sentiments formed the bedrock of our struggle in 1932, in 1947, in 1953 and your sentiments alone will form the basis of our politics in 2014”, Omar Abdullah said while addressing the election rallies in Noorabad and Homshalibug.

Omar Abdullah said that the high turnout in the first phase of elections was very encouraging and indicated that the people of J&K would not be bystanders while plans would be hatched to disempower and bypass them in choosing their representatives. “I am certain that the turnout will be even more in the remaining phases of this election and I have no doubt in my mind that J&K has decided to put all its support behind National Conference yet again at a crucial juncture in our history. We assure you that we will prize, value and work for the trust you are investing in us and stand between political marauders and the political individuality and status of Jammu and Kashmir”, Omar Abdullah further stated while addressing the election rallies in South Kashmir.

The election rallies were also addressed by NC Leader, sitting MLA and Party’s Candidate from Noorabad Ms. Sakina Ittoo, NC leader Nazir Ahmed Gurezi, NC Leader and Candidate from Homshalibug MLC Abdul Majid Larmi.
