Ten people including 3 soldiers,4 civilians killed in gun battle on IB


Jammu, November 27, (Scoop News)- Ten people including three soldiers, four civilians and three militants, have been killed in an ongoing gun battle along the international border(IB) in village Pindi Kathar in Arnia Sub-Sector of Jammu, an official here said.

He said the group of militants comprising seven to eight fired at a civilian vehicle after they infiltrated into the Indian side in Arnia area of Jammu district. The driver and two occupants of the vehicle were killed in this incident, after which the militants entered an abandoned army bunker in Pind Khote village.

According to official that locals on seeing the movement of militants early this morning informed the BSF and army authorities following which a cordon was laid and the encounter started.


The dead soldiers have been identified as Naik Kulvinder and Lance Naik Joginder, both of 5 Sikh Li and Naik Pawan Singh of 1 Para.


The civilians killed in the gun battle have been identified as Vikas Sabarwal, son of Thodu Ram, resident of village Alla, Arnia, Kishore Kumar, resident of Bari Brahmana and Vijay Kumar, resident of Batala, Punjab.

Two army jawans, who were trapped near the encounter site, were also rescued, he added..

He said that operation was still in progress.



Meanwhile Alert Indian troops foiled an infiltration bid near Leharan Company Operating Base in Lam Battalion area of responsibility early Thursday morning, a defence spokesman said.

He said our border guards noticed some suspicious movement near Line of Control (LoC) and they responded swiftly.

In the ensuing cordon and search operation the troops caught an individual with one AK 47 with 30 rounds, one Pakistan made pistol and Rs 8100 Pakistan currency, the spokesman added.

The individual is Adul Qayoomi alias Punjabi resident of Leheran.
