J&K's political aspirations don’t need BJP’s approval – NC
BJP’s rejection of Autonomy is reiteration of what they did in 2000

Srinagar, November 27, (Scoop News)-Hitting out at the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) for terming ‘Autonomy for Jammu and Kashmir’ as a misleading slogan, the National Conference Thursday said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir did not need BJP to approve their political sentiments and aspirations.

National Conference Spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu said the Autonomy Resolution passed by a two-thirds majority by the State Legislative Assembly in 2000 and sent to the NDA Government was not even shown the legal and constitutional respect that a resolution passed by a State’s assembly merits. “So this is along expected lines. The demand for Autonomy is a democratically ratified demand. It has been passed by a democratically elected Legislative Assembly during our tenure in 2000 and it is a constitutionally valid demand that our party will continue to strive for as the best possible solution to the Kashmir issue. BJP’s contempt for our political aspirations, while tragic is also irrelevant as it will not deter us from striving for our political dignity nor will it suppress the expression of our aspirations”, the NC Spokesman said.

Reacting strongly to BJP’s statement that government of India would never grant any pre-1953 status to Kashmir, the NC spokesman said the costs of this ‘ostrich neck’ stance borne by the people of J&K in terms of turmoil, lack of sustained peace and loss of young lives has been huge and that is something that BJP will need to take into account.

“The Kashmir Issue has to be resolved as it is the people of J&K who suffer from this status-quo. We will continue to press for the restoration of Autonomy at all possible fora and will make renewed efforts to achieve this goal for the honor and dignity of our people”, NC Spokesman Junaid Mattu added.

Referring to the self-contradictory, high-pitched rhetoric of Mehbooba Mufti of claiming to protect Article 370 at any cost, NC Spokesman said that it was none other than her father and PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who helped New Delhi to erode Article 370 in J&K. “Between 1953 and 1975, Mufti Sayeed was in almost all State Cabinets that signed orders that eroded Article 370 over the years. Mufti Sayeed should first apologize to the people of J&K for the damage he has caused to the political rights of the citizens of this State before PDP or Mehbooba Mufti speaks about protecting Article 370”, the NC Spokesman further added.

“Article 370 is the foundation and basis of the relationship between J&K and the rest of country. National Conference will press for the reversal of the erosions made to the Article with unhindered spirit and will never allow any further machinations to dilute the State’s special status”, NC Spokesman Junaid Mattu further added.
