Ganai stresses role of tech for optimal energy consumption
Jammu,December 19, (Scoop News)-The week long celebrations of “National Energy Conservation Week” today concluded at Government College Engineering and Technology (GCET).
Financial Commissioner, Industries & Commerce Department Khurshid Ahmad Ganai was the Chief Guest, while Secretary, School Education Department Nirmal Sharma and Director Colleges, Higher Education Department Tariq Ahmad Kawoosa were the Guests of Honour.
The aim of organizing the programme was to provide a platform for exchange of ideas between student community and expert panellists so that effective energy conserving technologies would be adopted to meet out our day to day energy requirements.
During the week long session, the institute organized various competitions such as Slogan writing, Poster making, Debates, Card making, quiz competitions, Workshop, Project displays and Paper presentation on the topic “Energy Conservation – a necessity for Sustainable Development”.
As many as, 15,000 students from different schools , colleges participated in the programme. An energy saving campaign was also carried out by the staff and student volunteers in the rural villages.
Many interactive sessions with eminent speakers from energy sector were also held. A message is being spread through the students in the entire state to switch-off their lights and heating/cooling appliances between 6.00 P.M to 9.00 P.M.
Speaking on the occasion, Ganai emphasized that the energy conservation requirement in the current scenario is the need of the hour. He stressed the participants about the role of technology in minimizing the energy consumption by the various electrical gadgets and urged them to contribute for this important cause at an individual level.
Ms. Nirmal Sharma and Tariq Ahmad Kawoosa also spoke on the occasion.
Trophies and certificate were also distributed among the winners and participants.
