A Befitting Reply to the Parliamentary Deadlock

By Dr. Ved Pratap Vaidik

The President Pranab Mukherjee has made a very timely intervention. He has shown the mirror to both sides, the ruling and the opposition parties. On one side he has condemned the tactics of creating pandemonium by the opposition and on the other hand also taken a dig at the ordinance-love of the ruling government. The frank expression of views by the President shows Pranab Da has developed himself a lot over the years. Though the congress leaders have no better reputation than the managers of the Private Limited Company of Soniaji but Pranab Da has proved that after becoming the President, he is really justifying the role of a President.

As far as the issue of suspension of Parliamentary proceedings is concerned, for the last seven months Congress is doing the same what BJP has been practicing for the past 10 years. In spite of the warning by the President, the role of Congress would not be any different is my apprehension. After all what is the reason for this? Why is the attitude of all political parties so negative? The reason which I can make out is that all our political outfits have become purely a power hungry lot. They cannot remain without power. When they are defeated, they think they are totally orphaned. Nothing remains with them. As soon as they come to power their aim is to mint money and boss around the people. They pander to their greed and ego. By calling themselves as servants of people they beg for votes and after coming to power they turn into rulers. When the power slips from their fingers they do not understand what to do. They become breathless, confused, frustrated. Hence, it is necessary or not, they create ruckus, uproars and pandemonium. They make Parliament as wrestling arenas. Party spokespersons wrestle on TV channels. With these acrobats, even the serious law making work takes backseat as is hipping now.

The ruling party has a solution to this and that is why the ordinance. It is its compulsion but it will have to get it approved within a span of one and a half month of the commencement of the session of the Parliament. It would have to call a joint session of the parliament so that the lack of majority in the Rajya Sabha could be compensated. The President has criticized this but he must tell what is the solution to this deadlock? I think that in the joint session of the Parliament, a dozen of ordinances must be passed with a single stroke in a day so that the opposition must be taught a lesson. This would be a befitting reply to the disruptions and pandemonium created either by congress or BJP.
