| 5th “National Voter’s Day” was observed at Leh | | 
Leh ,January 25, (Scoop News)-Like the other parts of country, the 5th “National Voter’s Day” was observed today at DC Conference Hall Leh which commenced with taking the Voters Pledge.
Deputy Commissioner/ District Election Officer Leh Hassan Khan, Chief Guest of the occasion, mentioning this years’ theme of ‘Easy Registration and Easy Correction’ talked about the importance of the day and expressed the importance of exercising the voting right in our country where as compared to other few countries where the women folk do not have any right to vote and in some countries forced voting based on religion and caste is prevalent, we the citizens of India are fortunate to have the free will to exercise the voting rights.
DC appealed the new voters to register their name on attaining the age of 18. On the occasion, DC also appreciated the active participation of BLOs in enrolling good number of new voters.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Leh Tashi Dolma while speaking on the occasion said that the purpose of celebrating the voter’s day is to woo more new voters and to inspire them to exercise their franchise, when the occasion comes and requested to avail the easy system of registration and correction of names.
Later under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner/ District Election Officer Leh Hassan Khan, a Mock Poll was conducted and new EPICs were distributed to voters and handed over EPICs to the concerned BLOs for further distribution.
A similar function with taking of Voters Pledge was also observed at SDM Office Diskit Nubra where SDM Ravinder Kumar and Tehsildar Nubra highlighted about the importance of voting. Block level officers, Sarpanch, BLOs, ASHAs, ICDS workers and voters were also present. SDM on the occasion distributed new EPICs to the new voters.
The National Voters Day was also celebrated at Hunder, Parta, Skamphuk and nearby villages where the SDM, Tehsildar and BDO went to observe the NVD.
Likewise, voter’s day was also celebrated at Khaltsi sub division under the supervision of SDM Khaltsi Barqat Ali Lone where the participants took the Voters Pledge and new EPICS were distributed. Tehsildar Khaltsi Gh. Mehdi, Sarpanch, Nambardar, BLOs and new voters were also present.
