5th National Voter’s Day celebrated across Jammu
Jammu, January 25, (Scoop News)-The 5th National Voter’s Day was celebrated throughout the Jammu division with enthusiasm.
At Samba, the Day was celebrated at DC office complex, Nandni Hills Samba.
On the occasion, a rally was also organized by District Administration which was attended by District and Block Level Officers, general public especially students who were carrying placards with slogans like “Proud to be a Voter”. The rally started from Govt. Degree College, Samba and culminated at DC office complex, Nandni Hills, Samba.
District Development Commissioner, Samba, Mr. Mubarak Singh while speaking on the occasion impressed upon the voters to ensure greater participation in the elections for strengthening democracy in the country.
DIC Samba had organized a cultural programme to make the masses aware in the form of drama, skit and songs about the participation in the voting through local culture group Sargham which was highly appreciated.
On the occasion, the voters took a pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of the country and to vote in every election fearlessly and without being influenced by consideration of religion, race, caste, community, language or any other inducement.
Freshly enrolled voters were distributed Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) on the occasion. It was informed that similar functions were organised in the Sub Division Vijaypur, Samba, Tehsils and polling stations of the district.
At Kathua, the National Voters Day was celebrated across the District with great enthusiasm and a programme was organized at District headquarters Kathua. Additional Deputy Commissioner Kathua Prasanna Ramaswamy G presided over the function. Tehsildar and BLO’s of Kathua Assembly Constituency were also present.
The ADC hailed Booth Level Officers for the successful completion of recent Assembly Elections in which record polling was registered in all five assembly segments of Kathua district.
On the occasion, EPICs were distributed among the newly enrolled voters besides a pledge taking ceremony was also held.
Earlier two rallies of school students were flagged off from Shaheedi Chowk which culminated at DC Office Complex. The rally of students holding placards with slogans on Voters rights passed through main chowks of Kathua. At Basohli the main function on Voters day was held at Ramlila Ground, where EPIC distribution and pledge taking ceremony was held. SDM Basohli Gurmukh Singh was the chief guest.
At Bani, the main function was held at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Bani, SDM Bani M.A Bandey presided over the function. A rally of students and EPIC distribution was held on the occasion besides pledge was administered to the newly enrolled voters.
At Rajouri, the District Administration celebrated 5th National voters' day with the theme “Easy Registration, Easy Correction" under the guidance of District Election Officer, Rajouri, Jitendra Kumar at DC office complex.
While interacting with students, the DEO said that the main objective of celebrating the National Voters’ day is to increase enrolment of voters especially the newly eligible ones, to make universal adult suffrage a complete reality.
At Poonch, to commemorate the foundation day of the Election Commission of India and to encourage more young voters to take part in the democratic process, 5th National Voters’ Day (NVD) 2015 was celebrated at an impressive programme at GDC Poonch here today.
District administration organized a seminar in Government Degree College Poonch. Speakers touched upon various aspects of the electoral system in the country and the need to further strengthen the political process by ensuring greater participation.
Speaking on the occasion, DEO, Mr. M. H. Malik highlighted the importance of right to franchise and appealed all to ensure strengthening of this vital constitutional right. He said the main objective of NVD celebrations is to increase enrolment of voters, especially of the newly eligible ones and to spread awareness among voters regarding effective participation in the electoral process. On this occasion he also congratulated the electorate of the District for recording highest ever turnout.
NVD was also celebrated at the Booth Level across the District where the concerned BLOs distributed Form-6 to the prospective voters.
At Reasi, like other parts of the country, the 5th National Voters Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm. The District Election Officer (DC) Reasi Shabir Ahmad Bhatt was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the DEO highlighted the importance of the day and said that the Election Commission’s objective behind celebration of National Voters’ Day is to increase enrolment of voters, especially of the newly eligible ones, by using this occasion to make universal adult suffrage a complete reality, and thereby enhancing the quality of Indian democracy.
On this occasion, forms for registration among the eligible members not yet registered in the electoral rolls were distributed. The officials also explained the process of filling the form and informed regarding the process of submitting it to the relevant office. Students showed keen interest in getting registered for voting.
At Udhampur, National Voter’s Day was celebrated at Govt Degree college (Boys) Udhampur here today.
The District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner), Udhampur, Mrs. Yasha Mudgal was the chief guest on the occasion who highlighted the importance of the day. She said that the objective of this day was to make the general masses aware about increasing enrolment of voters so that maximum number of voters could participate in the electoral process for making a stronger democracy.
The District Election Officer also administered a pledge to all the participants to up hold the dignity of elections and Vote in the elections without any fear, inducement or influence.
On the occasion, District Election Officer handed over EPICs among a number of electors registered in the electoral rolls for the first time. New voters were also provided badges with the inscription “Proud to be a Voter - Ready to Vote”.
Later, an awareness rally comprising young students drawn from colleges and schools was flagged off by the District Election Officer.
At Ramban, the National Voters Day was celebrated today with full fervor by the district administration.
The function commenced with a rally of students which started from GHSS Ramban and passed through main market and culminated at Dak Bangalow Ramban. District Development Commissioner, Ramban, Farooq Shah Bukhari was present on the occasion.
On this occasion Form 6 was distributed among the young people who had attained the age of 18 years as on January 1st 2015. A large number of Electoral Photo Identity Cards were distributed among the new voters. A large gathering of people from all walks of life participated in the event.
Speaking on the occasion DDC Ramban told the students that this message of Voters Day should be taken to each and every family so that no one is left unregistered and the required modifications are done so as to make the democratic process of voting fair and fruitful for the people of the country.
The DIC Ramban, on the occasion, organized a Symposium on “Voter’s Day” at Dak Bungalow Ramban. The function was presided over by District Development Commissioner, Ramban, Farooq Shah Bukhari.
Students of Government Degree College Ramban and various other schools participated in the competition.
The Symposium concluded with the distribution of prizes among the meritorious students and commendation certificates among the participants.
At Kishtwar, with a view to celebrate the rich democratic ethos of the nation and to spread wide awareness regarding democratic structure of our country among the youth to encourage larger participation in the electoral process, the District administration in collaboration with District Information Centre Kishtwar celebrated the 5th National Voters’ Day programme at Govt Boys HSS Kishtwar.
At DODA, to encourage more young voters to take part in the electoral process, 5th National Voters day was celebrated in Town hall Doda. On this occasion a rally by the District officers, BLOs, Students, Prominent citizens etc. was organized from DC office Complex Doda to Town Hall Doda in which the participants carried placards, banners, pamphlets, posters appealing the young voters to register themselves as a voter and participate in electoral process.
The Rally after passing through the town concluded at Town Hall where a function was organized in which different speakers highlighted the importance of National Voters Day.
EPIC Cards were distributed among the newly registered voters on the occasion, besides appreciation certificates were awarded to the Nodal officers and officers/ officials who had performed their duties efficiently and effectively during the recently concluded Assembly elections in the District.
