Cultural Academy Leh organizes a conference on ‘Role and Responsibility of Films & Film Makers
in preservation of Art Culture and Language’

Leh,January 29, (Scoop News)-A daylong conference on ‘Role and Responsibility of Films & Film Makers in preservation of Art, Culture and Language’ organised by Jammu and Kashmir Cultural Academy Leh in collaboration with Ladakh Media and Cultural Society Leh was organised today at Lotsawa auditorium J&K Culture Academy Leh.
Chairperson of the first session Sonam Wangchuk, Director SECMOL gave a brief account about the history of the emergence of syllable and then citing the example of the saying ‘written medium is never a strong medium then a spoken medium’ talked about the importance and effects of films on a society. Explaining the dual effect of films he gave the example of fire which has the positive effect of cooking food and keeping us warm and also the destroying power of turning a community or a village into ashes. Talking about the general observation he said that the public generally remembers the educational and society oriented films more as compared to bold films.
Earlier, Special Officer for Culture J&K Cultural Academy Leh Tsewang Paljor talking about the importance of supporting and appreciating the efforts in general and creative work in particular told about the objective of conducting this conference. He also expressed happiness on the increase in conduct of seminars and conferences in Ladakhi language. He further said that the promotion of intangible cultural heritage of Ladakh through films is a challenge for the film makers which is a strong and effective medium.
In the second session, Councillor Upper Leh Ven. Lobzang Nyantak talked in detail about the difficulties of writing of scripts. He further mentioned about the importance of making society oriented films where there is a lesson to be taught. Appreciating the work of the budding actors of the Ladakhi films and theatre he requested them to work harder to help keep our tradition alive which also helps them stay away from social evils like cigarette smoking, drinking alcohol and drugs.
On the occasion, Padma-shree Morup Namgyal talked about the major effect of improvement in Ladakhi language through films. He further suggested for a five minute glimpse of history or personality sketch of famous personalities of Ladakh like Bakula Rinpoche in-between films.
Chairperson of the second session Tsewang Norboo echoing the words of the experts talked about the importance and positive role films can play in a society and further talked in detail about the important role of media as the fourth pillar.
Earlier, in the first session, Advisor Ladakh Media and Cultural Society (LMCS) Leh Tsetan Angchuk talked about scripting & story writing; Advisor LMCS Jigmet S. Angchuk about film making as a whole; Stanzin Gya on documentary films and Nawang Rinchen Wachar on music in films.
The session in the beginning also congratulated Tsering Norphel for receiving the Padmashree award and declaration of State Award for Padmashree Tsering Angdus for making Ladakh proud through their contribution. Editor J&K Cultural Academy Leh Ven. Tsering Chhospel concluded the conference with assuring support in future endeavours and inviting suggestions presented the vote of thanks at the end.
