JK witnessed peace, prosperity & development during NC regimes:Dr Kamal | | Srinagar, January 31, (Scoop News)- The state of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed peace, prosperity and massive development only when National Conference was in power and only this party guarantees to protect the identity, individuality and brotherhood of the people of the state, this was stated by Additional General Secretary National Conference Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal here on Saturday. Kamal met a number of delegations from Poonch and Rajouri and interacted with the delegates. On the occasion Kamal said that Jammu and Kashmir state witnessed a massive era of development when NC was in power and our party sacrificed everything for the betterment of the people of state. “Be it in the field of health, education, agriculture, tourism or communication, NC played a vital role in reshaping all these sectors so that to boost the economy of the state. We took historic decisions to uplift all these sectors,” Kamal told the delegates. He said in 1980, Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah after receiving Rs 20 Crore from the central government started the construction of the Mughal road after which the work was furthered by Dr Farooq Abdullah and G M Shah. “From 1987-90 when I was the PWD minister about 45% of the construction was completed on this road but unfortunately due to the crisis in the state the work was halted for many years. After a long gap, it was only in 2001 when Dr Farooq Abdullah persuaded the central government to restart the work on this road and it was mutually agreed that the union and state government will fund the construction work equally,” Kamal said and added “After spending Rs 150 Crore on the project, it was finally inaugurated by Omar Abdullah in 2011.” He said work done by National Conference governments speaks loud and clear across the state. The senior NC leader similarly the dream of having Baba Ghulam Shahbad University, also sketched by Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was finally realized during the tenure of Dr Farooq Abdullah as the CM of the state. “The government led by Dr Farooq Abdullah gave the nod from the state assembly of constructing this University and Rs 35 crore were initially spent on this project. The money raised by the Sharda Shareef Shrine was also utilised in this project as the shrine came under the direct control of Muslim Auqaf Trust, which was founded by Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah,” he informed. He said National Conference continues to strive for implementing the autonomy in the state which was duly passed by the state legislative assembly. “Moreover, our party has served as a bridge for improving the relations between India and Pakistan,” he added. He informed that during the last six years of Omar Abdullah’s tenure as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, our state witnessed a boomerang development with around 10,000 kilometers new roads being built. “1150 far flung areas were connected through a web of roads constructed during Omar Sahib’s tenure, which were otherwise completely cut-off from the rest of valley also 300 new bridges were constructed during this period,” he added.
