Congress protests against Mufti’s remarks, accuses BJP of betraying people
Crediting Pakistan, militants for peaceful polls an act of appeasement:Malhotra

Jammu, March 03, (Scoop News)-The Congress party Tuesday lodged a strong protest against the controversial remarks of Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed soon after taking oath on Sunday, where he had claimed that “Pakistan, Hurriyat and militants allowed conducive atmosphere for violence free Assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir”.
The protest demonstration was organized by Sh. Vikram Malhotra, General Secretary, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on the day when Sh. Ghulam Ahmed Mir, former Minister and senior Congress leader, who was appointed as President of the JKPCC by the party high command, assumed his office at the party headquarters in Jammu today in the presence of a large number of senior party-men including the outgoing state party chief, Prof. Saifuddin Soz.
Before the protest, Sh. Vikram Malhotra along with hundreds of his supporters and party workers accorded a warm welcome to the new Pradesh Congress chief, Sh. G. A. Mir outside the party head office in Jammu.
Leading the strong protest demonstration amid slogans against these remarks of the Chief Minister, who is also the patron of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sh. Vikram Malhotra, General Secretary, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of virtual “sellout” of the mandate of people of Jammu region.
“This unfortunate statement of Mufti Sayeed, that too on the day of his taking oath of office as the Chief Minister of the State, is at one side an attempt to appease the pro-Pakistan and separatist forces, besides, militants in the Kashmir valley and on the other is aimed at discouraging our Army and security forces,” he said and added, “It’s an open fact that Army and other security forces have given innumerable sacrifices to maintain peace and tranquility in Jammu & Kashmir, and peaceful Assembly as well as Parliamentary elections are a result of their unparallel contribution to the local civil administration in the State.”
“Not only this, the giving in of their core agenda and party policy by the BJP leadership just to enter into the corridors of power in the State is an open breach of trust of people, who gave their mandate on verbal assurances and impractical promises made at the time of elections,” Sh. Vikram Malhotra lamented.
He further said that the BJP had floated revocation of Article 370 as its core agenda during elections and gathered votes on this account, besides, had been struggling against two flags system in Jammu & Kashmir but just to gain power, they surrendered it and befooled the people.
On this occasion, the Congress leader called upon the people of Jammu region in particular and of whole State in general to understand the machination of both BJP and PDP, who played with their emotions and aspirations mere for lust of power.
Prominent among those present on the occasion include Anand Gandotra,Shafqat Khokhar, Smt. Jyoti Vaid, Thomas Khokhar, Smt. Rama, Vishal, Sh. Swaroop Singh, Jugal Kishore, Balbir Singh, Raju Malhotra, Deepak (Rinku), Cheenu, Sh. Raj Singh, Sh. Baru and others.
