BGSBU scholars hold cleanliness drive


Rajouri, April 23 (Scoop News)- International Earth Day was celebrated at the Centre for Biodiversity Studies, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri in which staff, research scholars, and students of Master’s Programme of the Department participated with zeal and zest.
Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated worldwide in support of the Earth and protection of its environment.
Under the guidance of Prof. I. A. Hamal, Vice Chancellor BGSBU, CBS organized a cleanliness drive in the Campus, in which all the students, research scholars and teachers participated. On this occasion, Prof. G. H. Dar, Dean, School of Biosciences and Biotechnology, deliberated upon the importance of the planet Earth and compared it with the console of Mother. He urged to commit ourselves to have Earth Day Every Day. He wanted the students and teachers to show collective resolve to mitigate environmental pollution and climate change by choosing sustainable style of living, and make efforts to live green every day. Prof. Dar emphasized the importance of water in sustaining the life on Earth, and the dire need to conserve it.
Prof. I. A. Hamal, Vice Chancellor BGSBU, in his message emphasized upon the significance of organizing Earth Day so that people become aware about importance of the Mother Earth and take necessary precautions to protect it and preserve its environment. In view of limited drinking water availability in the hilly areas of Rajouri and Poonch districts, he desired the people in general to make judicious use of water to ensure its sustainable supply.
First celebrated in 1970, this day is now globally coordinated by the Earth Day Network, and 2015 is Earth Day’s 45th anniversary. This years’ theme of the World Earth Day is “Water Wonderful World”, to sensitize the world regarding importance of water in driving Earth, the only Planet in the whole universe that sustains life
