| No problem in demanding more than one AIIMS for J&K, insists Jora | | State always been prided as crown of India |  Jammu, April 25, (Scoop News)-Reacting sharply to a news item appearing in a section of media, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, Rigzin Jora, Saturday refuted the allegation leveled against the party on AIIMS issue.
"Congress party had made it abundantly clear both within the legislature and outside that the party is for AIIMS , both for Kashmir and Jammu , and possibly for Ladakh, too", he asserted and said where is the problem s.n in demanding more than one AIIMS.
"It is unfortunate that this is being sought to be made out into a regional issue by some parochial forces" Jora said adding "this country can surely afford an additional AIIMS or two for a state that has always been prided as the crown of India".
"Much more than politics, sentiments or emotions, it is pragmatic and practical, given the geographical spread of the state, the mountainous s.n terrain, lack of proper accessibility and communication. This must not be viewed through regional and parochial prism", CLP leader exhorted .
"To remind that he was the one who made intervention in the assembly demanding separate AIIMS for Jammu while emphatically making the point that the party welcomes the one for Kashmir", he pointed out.
"Therefore, the question of opposing AIIMS for Kashmir does not arise at all", Jora insisted.
In fact the Congress would request the Government of India to sanction one for Ladakh as well - given Ladakh's problem of accessibility and lack of proper s.n communication. But if somebody or some forces feel that Jammu should not demand AIIMS, it only shows their mind-set and reflects their attitude, CLP leader wondered.
He said we are living in a democratic country and everybody has the right to demand and agitate for what they feel to be their genuine demand and nobody should have a problem with that, Jora pointed out and said this is not the first time that the state is facing such a situation.
He recalled only three years back we were in a similar soup when we were given one central university.
"We fought it out both in the assembly, within the government and outside and eventually managed to get one for Jammu as well, this will , to a large extent , depend on how much s.n pressure we are able to apply on the Union Government and its sincerity to Jammu and Kashmir", CLP leader maintained.
After having deprived Jammu of chief ministership , equitable share in the cabinet and the power structure , Modi government cannot afford to ignore AIIMS demand, Jora chided.... |
