Congress charges coalition partners of jeopardizing development in Ladakh region
Want equitable share in economic, education, health and tourism sectors:Samphel

Leh (Ladakh), May 17, (Scoop News)-Congress Party on Sunday denounced the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir for discriminating against Ladakh region by jeopardizing its march towards development by creating hurdles in various sectors.
In a memorandum submitted to the chief minister and his deputy , district congress committee (DCC) chief, Tsering Samphel, charged the authorities for deliberately with holding the funds to the order of rupees 364 million (30.64 crore) against the work done(Pending claims) for the fiscal year 2014-15 and allowing the same to lapse.
“Never, this had been experienced in past 67years. The entire amount was lapsed and it included stipend of the students, midday meals, MGNREGA dues to the farmers and bills of contractors for the work done under various schemes”, he fumed.
Taking dig on “Special Recruitment Ordinance-2015” for fast tracking contractual appointments of gazette and non gazette government employees without the provisions of reservation to SC, ST and OBC’s, DCC president said ,“ the whole region is economically and academically backward and deserves a special consideration for its uplift. The people of Ladakh region, both Leh and Kargil districts, deserve it and they would struggle for continuation of special relaxations in recruitments in future also”.
Samphel demanded immediate restoration of a bridge on a trekking route in Markha valley which got washed away recently due to flash floods following bursting of Phuktal artificial lake near Zanskar area. This, he said, would allow smooth trekking for foreign adventure tourists.
He said the newly upgraded 19 high schools to higher secondary, 11 middle to high school and 11 primary health centers be made fully functional.
Reminding BJP leaders of their last year’s promises like UT status for Ladakh region within six months, inclusion of Bhoti language in 8thschedule of the Constitution etc during poll campaign, DCC president demanded a tunnel in Khardungla, taming of Siachen River for arresting erosion of the valley, opening of Demchok route for Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage and trade.
Samphel urged the authorities to grant university status to Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS) in Leh, and demanded opening of a separate police range for Ladakh, creation of Women’s battalion in Ladakh Scouts and ITBP and creation of job opportunities for unemployed Ladakhi youths.
He sought coalition government’s attention for taking up few important sectors on priority besides monitoring them for speedy completion which included rupees 9000 crore Zojila Tunnel, rupees 110 crore new terminal building at Leh Airport, rupees 241 crore Nimoo _Chilling Road, rupees 217.35 project of Leh town beautification under UIDSSMT, rupees 22.22 crore old town conservation project under RAY, rupees 35 crore 18 hole Golf Course at Shey, rupees 12 crore Convention Complex at Leh
