| GGF volunteer brought laurels to the State | |
Jammu, May 28 (Scoop News)-Daughter of B.K Sawhney and Dr Sushma Mahajan, Udita Sawhney has brought laurels to the state by being one of the only 12 researchers selected from all over the United Kingdom to document an endangered Mon-Khmer language in Thailand.
Along with the other delegates from Oxford, Cambridge and University of London, she participated in the pilot study and received extensive training on Language Revitalization and Documentation. Udita is currently pursuing her PhD in Linguistics at the prestigious University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom.
She did her Masters and Bachelors (Hons) from The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, where she was recognized for her excellent academic performance.
An alumnus of Presentation Convent Sr. Sec School, Jammu, she has also participated in International Conferences in Sydney, Bangkok and Hyderabad. Her paper on Socio-Cultural Language Attitudes of Youth bagged her first International Publication.
She is also a member of the Organising Committee for the international LEL PostGrad Conference-2015 to be held at University of Edinburgh this June. She’ll be presenting her preliminary research at the Conference. Through her on-going research on Dogri, Udita has brought the state on a global platform and hopes that her efforts will bring appropriate global attention.
Apart from her academic passion, Udita has also served as a freelance writer and editor for various independent websites and was also a former Intern with The Indian Express, Pune. She also is an active member of Gandhi Global Family Youth and has served as a ‘peace messenger’ for Hyderabad chapter.
