| Tarigami, Hakim condemns police action against employees | |
Srinagar, May 28 (Scoop News)-Strongly condemning the police action against temporary state government employees who were protesting for regularisation, MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami and MLA Khan Saheb Hakim Mohammad Yaseen have said that it seems the present dispensation is only relying on policy of browbeating and application of force to muzzle voices in favour of long pending genuine demands of the labour class.
In a joint statement issued here, the two leaders have termed the police action against employees who had tried to march towards the Civil Secretariat to protest in support of their demand as unjustifiable. Tarigami and Hakim also called for an immediate end to such bullying tactics adopted by the government.
Expressing serious concern over the way protesting employees are dealt with in Kashmir, Tarigami and Hakim said that use of batons, water cannons and tear smoke shells against the employees is inhuman and deserve to be condemned in strongest possible terms.
“Dozens of employees who have been injured need to be treated immediately,” the two leaders demanded. They observed that by browbeating and use of excessive force the government is only complicating the grievances of its employees.
“It is ironical that almost all problems in Kashmir are being tackled by the use of force. The PHE, PDD employees, daily wagers and casual labourers who are putting in their blood and sweat to make the government progarmmes a success are being humiliated to the hilt,” Tarigami and Hakim remarked.
Taking a strong exception to the government’s lackadaisical approach towards pending wages of casual labourers, salaries of employees working under SSA and RMSA the two leaders remarked that it seems the present government like the previous dispensation believes in making deceptive commitments to buy time and avoid the crisis.
They called for immediate regularization of all those daily wagers, casual labourers and other contractual employees, who have completed seven years of service in PHE, PDD and other engineering departments as per the norms in vogue. “It is appalling that the government is far from fulfilling its commitment with these daily wagers. The administrative apathy towards their genuine issues is against the canons of justice and fair play.”
“It is incongruous that instead of listening to the demands of its employees, the state government is using force to muzzle their voice,” the two leaders said, adding that over 5000 daily wagers, casual labourers, seasonal and temporary workers continue to toil hard and are getting peanuts and meager salaries in return.
“The government must look into their grievances and address them on priority,” they demanded.
