Veteran Gojri writer Ch. Naseem Poonchi passes away

Srinagar,July 28 (Scoop News)-Veteran Gojri writer, poet and researcher Ch. Bashir ud Din Naseem Poonchi was passed away at his residence at Nunar village of Ganderbal district last night. He was 75. According to family sources he was suffering from chronic illness.

His Nimaz e Jenazah was performed today at Baba Nagri, Wangat , Kangan which was attended by a large number dignitaries, writers of Gojri language, intellectuals included Mian Bashir Ahmad, Sajjada Nasheen Darbari Aalia Babaji Sahab Wangat, Mian Altaf Ahmad Former Minister and MLA Kangan, prominent Gojri writers Iqbal Azeem, Dr. Javaid Rahi , Dr. Rafeeq Anjum, Dr. G. R. Badana, Dr. Shahnawaz, M H Saleem, Mehmood Chaudhary (SSP) , Advocate Khalid Mustafa Bhatti, S.D. Bajjad and others.

Naseem Poonchi was author of about one dozen Gojri books and as translator he had translated many world classics into Gojri. He was the first author of the Gojri language who’s book was adjudged as best in State level a competition organised by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in 1977.

In 1978 he was appointed as founder Editor of Sheeraza Gojri in J&K Cultural Academy. He remained head of the Gojri wing of Academy for 17 years. Later he was retired as Deputy Secretary Culture in 2000.
His main Gojri books are Nain Sulakhna, Khechal, Kalaam e Naseem, translation of Rubaiyat e Khayam, Gulistan e Saidi, Bostan e Saidi, Kalaam e Roomi, Karwan e Madina, Masnavi Maulana Roomi six volumes into Gojri.

As head of the Gojri wing of the Academy he compiled first ever Gojri-Gojri Monolingual Dictionary comprising of six volumes wherein around one lack Gojri words are collected with their meanings in Gojri .
He was the member of many state level and national level committees of Sahitya Academy, Ministry of Culture Govt. Of India, Sangeet Natak Akademi, J&K Cultural Academy, State Board of School Education.

Naseem Poonchi was born in Gursai Village of Mendhar Tehsil of Ponch District in 1940. In 1947 his family migrated to Pakistan where he earned his early education. Later he joined Lahore Medical College and selected for MBBS. He left studies in mid and migrated back to his native village in 1960 later joined Degree College Poonch and passed graduated from there. He also served in Education Department, Radio Kashmir Srinagar.

He survived with two children and a wife. His Rasm e Chaharum will be observed on 30th of July, 2015 at his native village Nunar Ganderbal.
