Hundreds of Pandits participate in annual ritual at Kapleshwar Shiva temple | near Nagabal in Shopian | Shopian, August 27, (Scoop News)_Hundreds of Kashmiri Pandit families congregated to participate in a "havan" at the Shiva temple near Nagabal on the banks of Vaishav Nallah on Thursday.
The temple named after Kapleshwar Shiva, houses a rock stalagmite of Lord Shiva and the main complex is surrounded by three springs with schools of fresh water fish in them.
A devotee identifying himself as Autar Krishan called Scoop News by phone from Shopian and informed that hundreds of Pandits including displaced families participated in Kapal Mochan Shradh, an annual ritual for departed souls particularly for those who die young without thread ceremony.
"As per our religious scriptures these young souls remain formless entities and remain wandering and they attain salvation only after their kin perform a Shradh at Kapal Mochan", he added.
"Each year the ritual is being performed on the 12 day of the waxing moon during Shravana since 2012. This year the day coincided with August 27, Thursday", Autar said.
He said the annual function was revived three years ago and since then it is being performed with religious ferver and devotion.
The temple was revived by the community following government intervention. It remained neglected for over two decades due to absence of devotees as no religious activity was performed there. ... |
