Work with commitment for accomplishing targets: Veeri to Horticulture officers
Srinagar, August 27 (Scoop News)-The Government would organize five mega Kissan Melas in Kashmir Valley shortly for propagating scientific knowhow to the fruit growers about the cultivation of high density fruit plants, grading and packaging of fruit, setting up of vermi compost units besides other technical knowhow of horticulture cultivation.
The decision in this regard was taken in a high level meeting of horticulture officers by Minister for Horticulture, Abdul Ahmed Veeri here today.
The Minister said that two each Mega Kissan Melas would be organized in South and North Kashmir and one in Srinagar adding these mega Melas would help the growers about cultivation of horticulture on modern lines for better produce.
The Minister said that high density walnut ploy-green houses would be also setup in each district to promote the high yielding of walnut in the valley.
Commissioner Secretary Agriculture Production Mohammad Ashraf Bukhari and other senior officers attended the meeting.
Underscoring the need for strict implementation of the decisions taken by the Government from time to time for development of horticulture sector on modern lines in the State, the Minister asked the horticulture functionaries to work with commitment and accomplish the targets well in time.
The Minister said that “Government has taken several innovative steps to revitalize the horticulture produce which among others include introduction of high density apple plants, Crop Insurance Scheme, Market intervention Scheme, establishment of Centers of Excellence, model villages of different fruits besides construction of cold atmosphere and grading and packaging units and development and up-gradation of fruit mandis in the State, which needs quick implementation by the concerned functionaries for the benefit of the growers”.
The Minister asked the functionaries to show outcomes tangibly on ground to the growers well in time. “All requisite formalities for importing ultra-high density apple plants and root stock from Europe besides identification of orchard land in all districts for front line demonstration plots of high density apple should be completed now”, the Minister instructed the officers.
Veeri urged functionaries of the department to be proactive and synergize their efforts and carry out frequent farm visits and submit tour dairies to the Administrative Department on monthly basis and also stressed for holding awareness camps at Panchayat level to disseminate information and share their experience and expertise with the fruit growers.
