14 tourists, six foreigners and eight Indians injured, 8 of them seriously
admitted in military hospital at Nimmu
Nimmu (Ladakh), August 27, (Scoop News)-At least 14 tourists were injured, eight of them seriously, when a civilian Traveller Tempo (a Minibus Maxi Cab) in which they were travelling toppled on the roadside due to the bursting of the right rear tyre, a senior defence official said on Thursday.

He said the mishap happened when the ill fated vehicle was travelling from Sangam to Chilling in Leh district Thursday morning at 11 am on National Highway- 1.

"The Army troops from 14 Corps returning after rafting saw the toppled vehicle and immediately came to the rescue. They saved the trapped passengers and without any delay evacuated them to a nearby military hospital at Nimmu", the official added.

He said out of the 14 travelers, 8 were foreigners (4 Males and 4 Females, from New York, Israel and Nepal) and six others were Indian tourists including 4 Males and 2 Females from Mumbai.

The official said eight of them were seriously injured and 6 had sustained minor injuries with abrasion, laceration, sprain and strains.

"The army personnel showed exemplary courage, initiative and great presence of mind in the rescue operation and due to their extraordinary valour and humanitarian act, a fatal accident was prevented", he said adding tourists also appreciated timely rescue operations by Indian army.
