Ladakh gets funds under Pashmina Promotion Plan

Jammu, August 31 (Scoop News)-In response to Rajya Sabha MP & J&K Prabhari Avinash Rai Khanna’s proposal regarding setting up of Pashmina Processing unit in Ladakh in the state, Union Minister of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Kalraj Mishra has conveyed the details regarding the subject on behalf of Govt. of India.
In the reply, it has been officially conveyed that the Prime Minister had, during his visit to Ladakh, announced “Pashmina Promotion Plan” for the benefit and development of the poor and nomadic Scheduled Tribe community of this region. The Textile Ministry has been earmarked 30 crore rupees for the purpose in the Union Budget of 2014-15.
The reply further said that in the SFT meeting held thereafter, it approved Rs. 19.35 crores for Pashmina Dehairing Plant at Leh, Rs. 156 lakhs for setting up of Facilitation Centre and Fiber Testing Centre, Rs. 50 lakh for Cattle Disease Inspection Centre at Leh, Rs. 200 lakh for provision of Guard Room with Residence/shelters numbering 100 units for nomadic people at Chungthang, Rs. 41 lakh for provision of Portable Electronic Units for 100 Charkha and 200 weaving machines, 98 lakh rupees for setting up of 5 Solar Energy Community Centres, Rs. 25 lakh for 5 open Grazing Meadows, Rs. 100 lakh for construction of 500 store shelters to stock Pashmina, distribution of Rs. 250 lakh among 500 families of Kargil district for expansion of Pashmina related activities and Rs. 37 lakh for Common Pashmina Facilitation Centre at Leh.
To ensure that Ladakh Hill Development Council is able to vigorously and effectively carry forward the programme of Pashmina Development and Promotion in the Hill district, the Govt. of India has already released 7.19 crores to it. The concerned Minister has further assured that should more funds be required, the same would be made available during the current financial year on receiving request from Jammu & Kashmir government.
